Hello. :) I was wondering (although this has partly resolved itself since yesterday) is there a way to stop / deny WU that are GPU only ? The one I did yesterday was GPU only and now its got some for the CPU, which is what I wanted anyway as its got six cores, but I don't want it to use the GPU. I checked my prefs (and saved them again) and also adjusted them and its behaving a bit but ideally if there is such a thing as a GPU only WU I'd like to not process those. Perhaps (forgive my ignorance), I have crunched a few before currently 162104 for Seti) but that was a couple of years ago. Unless there's no such thing as a GPU only WU and BOINC just decided to use that ? Interestingly the benchmarks said 0.15% CPU's (!) although that's since settled down. Sorry for the long thread, I think this is partly resolved itself but my main question is "Is there such a thing as a GPU only Work Unit" ? Off topic question: What forum software is this ? |

I think I've sort of answered my own question, I can just suspend GPU computing and allow everything else. |

You should not suspend already downloaded work units forever, since then your "wingmen" have to wait that they time out. There is a setting in your SETI@home preferences to disable the downloading of GPU tasks: Use NVIDIA GPU no Enforced by version 6.10+ If you don't want (your computer) to calculate the downloaded GPU tasks, you should abort them. BTW, you can edit your own posts for one hour after creating them. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. Thank you. I've noted the post edit for future reference. I did not abort the GPU work unit I finished it, let it upload then stopped accepting "GPU only" ones. I also see the GPU setting now too, thanks again all sorted. :) EDIT , Interestingly it now states in my preferences "Use NVIDIA GPU" = No but when I updated Boinc it said: 15/07/2011 12:12:43 | SETI@home | update requested by user But I'll see if it settles down. I note the icon in the taskbar has the GPU section grayed out now. |

But I'll see if it settles down. It will. ;-) I presume that connection was the first after setting the preference. It was needed to inform the client of the changes you made on the server. Future requests for work (supposedly:-) will not ask for GPU tasks. Gruß, Gundolf [edit]Another BTW:-) Why are your computers hidden? It's much easier for people trying to help you with problems when they can see your hosts and reported tasks. If you think there's too many informations laid open, try my user name link in the Author column and look at the display: for others there's much less displayed than for the owner.[/edit] |

Oh the hiding stemmed from years ago, I used various machines and as I changed them it took a while for it to "forget" the old machines. I recall at one time I had just two towers running it 24/7 they were Duron 900's :D , although that's all they did nothing else. I'll see about unhiding them soon, although really there should only be one now. |

The option: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project is: Should SETI@home show your computers on its web site? yes My computers: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/hosts_user.php?userid=8647488 (look at the Details to see that much less info is shown (e.g. only I can see the IP address of My computers)) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
