...(240v 100 amp circuit required)" Ah yes... Surely a power supply for the Seti crunching purist, and not for the faint of heart. Keep all small children and kitties away from the intake port of the 5,000 cfm cooling fan when it fires off. Hearing protection is recommended at distances of less then 100 yards. I'll be doing some light reading. Probably will have to start making Lunatics brand PSUs now, LoL Following up on the test conditions for this, the measurement/test circuit includes a 10uF electrolytic cap + a 100nF ceramic across the rail to ground. Looks like they externally tie the return to chassis ground as well. By rights that should change the measurements on the oscilloscope, probably enough that most PSUs would then meet the baseline spec listed in the table... So I think you can come out now HAL. Yeah I just read that in the Intel design guide myself. Even doing it like I did most of the noise was still within the limits, but tossing in a few caps in there would probably clean it up a lot. I'm just more accustomed to dealing with specs of "max ripple 2mv". It would seem PC hardware is designed to take quite a large variance. It would be interesting to test supply liens with various cards under load & see what is really going on there. Makes me wish I still had my Techtronix 100MHz digital LCD storage scope. Yup, beat you to it (just :) ). I doubt your supply would be outside of the ATX spec as mentioned in any case, though it's certainly interesting to see there are visible effects. I think your ~150Hz or so should disappear under those circumstances. Don't know about the higher harmonics & spikes though. I'm just more accustomed to dealing with specs of "max ripple 2mv". It would seem PC hardware is designed to take quite a large variance. Probably with purpose designed buck converters around the CPU & GPU, they try to keep unnecessary expense out of the picture I'd imagine. With multiple GPUs & a weak power supply, I could see things coming unstuck pretty quickly, which I suppose justifies the 'Sli-certified' angle etc... Actually, based on the background, which appears to be inside, such as a restaurant, I believe the scene is from Castle. Thank goodness that Nathan Fillion found another show after the untimely and unforgiven cancellation of Firefly. Thank goodness that Nathan Fillion found another show after the untimely and unforgiven cancellation of Firefly. [on topic] Looks like most of the 560ti quirks are better understood now, mostly PSU, insufficient Core voltages & Cooling issues... I'll be watching these things closely for a while to see if there is any way I can detect problem situations better on the app side... We'll see. [/on topic] Someone should let the industry there know they'll make DVD/BluRay & broadcast sales Overseas if they actually finish a SciFi Series properly, rather than chopping off with some slapdash ending & cancelling the (i.e. every watchable) show. Viewer ratings in the United States have no bearing on my personal viewing/buying habits, meanwhile the list of DVD box sets I won't be buying grows longer due to the continual Axing of decent stuff, and so that's probably a sizeable chunk of my money that California won't be getting to pull itself out of trouble. ... the HD5830 just up and died on me today. Any clues on what happened there ? "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. And unlike most advice, it's backed up by proofs." -- Algorithms to live by: The computer science of human decisions. |

Besides noise has anyone looked at the regulation of the 12V lines when large loads, i.e. the gpu(s), are switched on and off. |

... the HD5830 just up and died on me today. Other than the fan is not spinning on it at all, so might be fan controller. I had to stick my old 4830 in there for the time being and that required booting without any card in first and removing the AMD drivers before it would work. |

... the HD5830 just up and died on me today. Have you tried plugging a different PCIe power cable in? (Some Months ago my HD5770 kept going Awol, until i swapped power cables) (That PCIe power cable is tucked to one side now, and i haven't tried re-using it yet) Claggy |

... the HD5830 just up and died on me today. Other than the fan is not spinning on it at all, so might be fan controller. I've had a fan controller fail on an Nvidia card fail in the past... all of a sudden the card let out a loud squeal as it overheated - I didn't know what the noise was but luckily my initial reaction was to pull the plug on the computer before investigating further where I descovered the GPU's heatsink was rather toasty. I resorted to connecting the GPU's fan to a motherboard fan header and all was well again. I was suprised the card survived - I guess it was lucky I was there to pull the plug on it. Sorry for going off topic... I suppose I should add that my main rig with 2 x GTX 560ti's is working fine :) Brian. |

Not entirely germane, but... I am running a new Palit GTX 560Ti Sonic, downclocked to 850Mhz, with a new Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 650 Watt P/S. After a bit of trial-and-error fiddling it *seems* to be running just fine. It is currently running with the 275.33 driver and Lunatics opt apps. GPU is running a tad warm at ~75c. It runs at ~47c, but somewhat slower, with the 266.58 driver. Otherwise it has been very well behaved... BTW... crammed it all into a HP Pavilion p6190d box. A rather tight fit! |

what do you guys recomend for a power supply for me. i dont care about flashy looks or led lit fans. i just need something with good 12v amps. i only run 1 10,000 rpm sata2 hdd, 2 dvd drives, a dual core e5200, 4 gigs of pc-2 1066, a 560ti gc, pci wireless g, and then the standard keyboardmouse speakers bla bla. i have a like 4 fans total, but they are 120mm big slow units from thermal take and only 1/3 amp each. i do have about 20 led's in the case running off the 3.3v rail, but all total they probbaly take 1/4 amp of power. my current power supply has 23 amps of 12v , i think i need something with about 40 amps. |
