I recently received a very large work unit (name I don't remember) requiring 2CPUs with time Remaining of 199:58:00 approximately, after it ran for a short time. Does that translate to 199 hours: 58 minutes: 00 seconds? If so, then that's way too large for me and my laptop. The next time something like that shows up, it will be aborted, just like I did for the one I mentioned above, and it's source will be locked out to keep it from coming back, as it tried to do once. How can I set a limit to the size of work units I will accept? Send your response to my email address, not on the forum, because I seldom do the forum thing. BTW, I am only online when I choose to "dial-up" the internet on my phone line. I would also like to know what reason I should join a team and why? |

Sorry, but I never respond to email addresses because that would mean you would receive my email, and I'm a very private person. Hopefully you have email notifications turned on and you'll receive a notice with this response. Also, it makes it difficult for others that have the same question to see the answer. The entire point of a message board is to be a trove of information. None of SETI@Home's workunits require 2 CPUs, so I question whether it was a SETI@Home workunit or another project's. The thing to remember about workunits is that the time to completion is just an estimate, but can sometimes be off by a factor of 1/2 depending on various variables. Generally speaking, BOINC is excellent about requesting only the work that your computer can handle, so there is no option to exclude specific large workunits. I think you'll find that if you let them run, you might be pleasantly surprised. If you do miss a deadline from receiving too large of a workunit, BOINC will learn this and not send you any more. Teams are a personal choice. They offer comraderie and competition against other teams. I, myself, don't join teams. |

You must be refering to the Astropulse. In your account go to Seti@home preferences and check no for Astropulse and you will not receive any. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

AstroPulse shouldn't be 200 hours, nor does it require 2 CPUs. |

Hmmm..his other projects are Einstein, MW and Rosetta..none of which, IIRC, use 2 CPU's. Plus, he says it was aborted, but none of the three WU's he has listed show as such. Curious. |

Milkyway has certain tasks that are multi-threaded, but as far as I've seen they don't estimate in the 200h region, even while they run true in mere minutes. Whatever he's aborted, perhaps he hasn't reported it yet. The OP does have one AP 5.05 |

My SETI@home also required almost 200hrs. There is no chance to complete this package. I've cancelled it now (after 80hrs and almost 1 month) as it expired anyway 2 days ago. It was Astropulse indeed. I've disabled Astropulse in the settings now but SETI@home doesn't send me new packages?! |

Hi Illessa, don't give up hope. We have been having troubles with the server side of things. Work is flowing now but it is hard to come by as everyone is trying to get new work. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

You need these settings: SETI@home Enhanced: yes Astropulse v5: no Astropulse v5.05: no If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? no  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |
