CA passed an Amazon sales tax law, It won't affect Me one little bit, the Legislature and the Governor are dreaming, if a retailer who is in CA and is hosted on Amazon.com, Amazon has always charged a sales/use tax, if the retailer is out of state(Beyond California's borders) where CA Law does not apply then the retailers who are not owned by Amazon won't be charging any taxes to anyone in CA. Ca is Canada, CA is California. So unless a retailer has a physical presence within CA Amazon will not be charging a CA tax to people within CA, But then Amazon just hosts other retailers and is the same as the mail order of old, it's just online now, heck I could buy something from the Canada or FL or Taiwan or Japan or wherever and still pay no CA sales/use tax(which is what it's called under CA law, A sales/use tax). Besides I have no way of reporting it anyway, SSA will not give Me a way to pay sales taxes of any sort from Amazon or other places and that includes online or offline efforts, I could only pay for property taxes online as those don't require a non-existent form from the SSA(Social Security Administration).

So at least here, nothing will change for Me on this, As their use tax law is still an interstate tariff as was decided in 1992 and the story is Here. I expect someone will challenge the law in the Federal Courts soon enough. Oh and paying the tax is voluntary as It would be a lot of paperwork to document everything, I'd rather buy everything local, But some things like dry cat food or specialized computer parts are only available online as enthusiasts are the only people buying motherboards, 12v pc grade water pumps, compact pc radiators, etc... To get what I want I've had to by from places as far away as Germany or Taiwan or Florida, if there's a retailer in CA and their a Brick and Mortar place, I feel for them, But any parts I get online would be special order only and that means if You ordered the wrong item or it doesn't work, Yer up a creek unless the place You buy from is a dealer and specialized PC Parts wouldn't be sellable by B&Ms at all, they lose money as the items gathered dust. So this well meaning law won't change anything for anyone, Unless CA can strong arm, I mean politely twist retailers into being good CA retailers, even though their out of state and across a state line.

Billions of dollars are at stake as a growing number of states look for ways to generate more revenue without violating a 1992 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that prohibits a state from forcing businesses to collect sales taxes unless the business has a physical presence, such as a store, in that state. When consumers order from out-of-state retailers, they're supposed to pay the tax that is due, but they rarely do and it's difficult to enforce.
