Haven't been around much so don't know whats up but I have only downloaded Cuda WU's for about a week or so now. May have been longer but I recently ran out of CPU WU's so I noticed.....Whats up?

From my experiences, if the set WU cache is filled up with CUDA WUs in BOINC, then you get also (again) CPU WUs.

Either you let it.. - ..or you lower the WU cache to a value that BOINC ask only for CPU WUs.

Have the same problem here on the Frozen 920......
Loaded up just fine on the GPU...
But the CPU is just now crunching a lone AP WU it snagged a number of hours ago.
Seems the scheduler wants to load the GPU up to the max before it will send anything to the CPU, even if it is starving for work.
I believe this is a scheduler thingy, because the work requests are for both CPU and GPU.

I agree, I've had one of my crunchers dump a load of WU that were destined for its GPU because it got way too many, while the cpu was scratching around for something to do.
While watching the queues I saw that I was getting a very large number of gpu tasks so I did a quick mental add up on the time to run them all , and compared that with the drop dead dates - about 50% would never run in time - I was a little pessimistic, it was actually about 30% were kicked out before they started. This was at a time when the servers were struggling to deliver, and many downloads were on re-try, but still new ones came piling in. It looks like the logic goes along the lines "You've asked for a load of GPU tasks, but I haven't seen you got the last lot, so I'll send you some more just in case...", which I don't think is the intention of those that constructed the scheduler.

Does the "Use NVIDIA GPU" preference switch still not work with Anonymous Platform? Did anyone test recently?

Yes, it works, i use it to turn off Nvidia work fetch so my ATI gets a chance to get some Astropulse,

I think it may have been Richard who indicated that the scheduler prioritizes work being sent to the most capable device...CPU vs GPU.
The GPUs on the Frozen 920 certainly do the most work.
But I think there is a fatal flaw in the logic when the GPU has 1000s of tasks in it's cache and the scheduler ignores the fact that the CPU has almost nothing left in it's cache to run.
And I am running only Seti, so there are no other projects running to cloud the issue.

I was crunching MB on my GPU and Astropulse on my cpu's.

The last couple of weeks Astropulse has become more and more difficult to get. In part to the new app from Raistmer that crunches Astropulse on the ATI gpu. Rather than have the cpu's not working at all I added version 603 to my app_info file using the old AK_v8b_win_x64_SSSE3x.exe science app. At this time I have a lot of cpu work including just a few Astropulse.

Seems that MultiBeam work is a lot easier to get.

I'm getting a nice little mix of AP. Just finished two, running one now and have three more backed up waiting for me to get to them. As for the MB work, my CPUs haven't been going hungry though I've only got a few backed up for them and my GPU has been doing most of that work.

All I'm seeing is no task available. I'll be running out of work for cpu and gpu sometime today. Gives new defination to the word. "file server" ugh. Why is Seti so problematic?

This time it's not SETIs fault. See the HE problem thread for some more information and maybe do a few quick tests for them.

And back to the thread subject....
Since my last post, the Frozen One managed to snag 4 resend WUs.
And they all went to.......you guessed it. The GPU. Whilst the CPU sits idle.

Go get them Mark. MB splitters now online and producing for you.

Just got 1 more. And it went to.....the GPU.
Question here is not about getting any work...the question is why what does come down the pipe go to the GPU, which already has a lot of work cached, while the CPU has nothing to do?

I'll have to check when I get back home from work tonight and see if it has straightened itself out.

I don't know if this is a BOINC (client) or S@h (scheduler server) thing..

BOINC ask for CPU and nVIDIA GPU WUs simultaneously, but BOINC get only nVIDIA GPU WUs until the set WU cache is filled up. After, if BOINC ask only for CPU WUs, CPU WUs come down.

..from my experiences.

Well, here we are some 12 hours later or so.....
The Frozen One is still requesting tasks for GPU AND CPU, and everything that comes down the pipe is going into the GPU cache.

The CPU is still idle.

This is nutzo.

Why not just reshedule some units.

Resheduler 2.5

LOL....I just a few minutes ago decided to do that.
I really wanted to let Boinc and the scheduler figure the crap out on their own. But one, the other, or both are obviously clueless at this point.

I have the 2.1 version of the rescheduler loaded, will try that.
Have not had to run it for a looooooong time.

But I hate to see the CPU lollygagging around.

Well, that did the trick.
Took 500 WUs from the 7000 WU GPU cache and transferred them over to the CPU to handle.
Now back at full crunching power.

I suppose this will fool Boinc into thinking the GPUs have gotten faster, and it will bolster the GPU cache even further.

Meowsigh.
