So, I'm running a Corei7 iMac 2.8 ghz with 12 gigs of memory. I've been running Alex Kan's optimized Xeon crunchers on this machine for the better part of a year now and realized that if I opted to run under Windows I could not only get a newer more up to date cruncher but I can also perform ATI Stream video crunching as well.

The pitfalls: I've heard that once you have windows installed you need to install a manual control for the fan speed since the OS isn't able to directly control the fan speed on the computer itself and that it's obviously harder on the computer
due to the increased heat.

But, given that I have a well air conditioned, well ventilated location and that
I've ran overclocked self-built PCs for years I have a good idea of how to keep
the machine running in such a way that it wouldn't necessarily be running 24/7
this way.

Has anyone else done this? Pitfalls? Advantages?

I won't go into details trying to convert anyone to any OS as this is a personal choice. The only thing I will say is that Windows can help control fan speeds, but generally the hardware itself (BIOS and support logic) does it's own temperature and fan controls in most modern motherboards.

I am using Mac/SMC Fan Control for Windows.
