For what it's worth, there are DNS settings on my PCs. There are also DNS settings on my router. There might even be DNS settings on my cable modem.

I know my performance degrades if all the DNS settings on all machines don't match. I can't tell you why; I'm not a network wizard. Folks might want to check those if they haven't already.

Usually your computer gets DNS from the router or your Internet Service Provider.
But you can code it into the computer, usually one address and a secondary.
You can have more then two.
DMSbench tests several and shows you the fastest.
It also show you ones that redirect instead of just giving you an error if it isn't found. Some people like that others don't.
Also there are secure ones that filter bad sites.
There are single ones easy to remember for testing.

I do DNS from my linux laptop with the ridiculous uptime in my sig. It is configured to round-robin query the two DNS servers for Comcast, 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2. I never have DNS problems.

I am on Comcast and they don't interfere with my traceroute ability. There was a time about a month ago where the second hop would time out, but it would pick back up once onto the Comcast backbone. I still consider it to be a reliable tool when diagnosing a problem.

Should anything from S@h be showing in TaskManager? Boinc shows.

The apps running should be shown, and Boinc.exe, boinctray.exe, and boincmgr.exe if you're running the manager.

They all show also Rosetta on this box.
Thanks.

Arne seems to have nailed the problem and provided a temporary solution.
I suggest further discussion on how this was solved, should be done via PM.

Net work traffic's dropped off considerably- looks like no more AP going out, even though there's plenty of work to split; its queue to be assimilated keeps growing with most of it's assimilators offline.
And less & less MB work is going out also- most requests for work get a No work available response.

I don't think those are comcast DNS servers.

Not the 4.2.2.1/2 addresses. I meant that I use two comcast DNS servers AND those two in a round-robin configuration. Maybe my wording could have been better. Total of four DNS servers in round-robin.

I've just got a fresh AP Wu, haven't seen a spike in network traffic (yet), i think all the splitters are just running slow,
