Message 1115349 - Posted: 10 Jun 2011, 9:37:16 UTC

I tried perusing the previous posts for assistance and I am not sure if I'm just not getting it or what.
This is me: User ID 557529

Total credit 0
Recent average credit 0.00
SETI@home classic workunits 266
SETI@home classic CPU time 2,887 hours

How do I link this to my new seti account? I dont have access to the old computer's hard drive (it crashed) and I tried every email I could think of I could have used and none of them seem to work.

Sorry to trouble, but please help!

The data you've listed aren't of a SETI classic account but of a SETI BOINC account that has already been linked to the classic data. So, the classic account can't be linked again.

Have you already tried the forgot email address? link on the log on page? (Assuming that you still have access to the original mail account.)

Do you have a backup of the old SETI account? (I know, who does backups anyways, nowadays? ;-)

Gundolf

Did you read this?:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_classic.php

Try the last link: "Claim your SETI@home Classic workunits"

(If you tried every email in an attempt to log-in the old account - you can't:
"These accounts were not given passwords (i.e., they can't be accessed using any password)."

I believe this is "real" Classic account - it never had computer attached using BOINC:
"When we launched SETI@home/BOINC, we created accounts for all SETI@home Classic users, with their existing email addresses. Each account includes the number of SETI@home Classic workunits completed, the CPU time, and the start date."
)

So you're saying someone took credit for my hours?

No backup of the old seti account... although I did use it on both my old computer and my PS3. I tried using the recover password option for all the emails I could think of and it said none were valid?

I must be not understanding what you are trying to tell me :x

Your User ID 557529 is a BOINC account. It has the Classic Seti count already attached to that account. You are now posting with a new BOINC account. BOINC accounts cannot be merged.

So if you want to continue with the User ID 557529 account, you will need to find a way to get to it. That can be done through the email address recovery option. If you don't know the email address with which you registered User ID 557529, then all bets are off. Unless you can produce the email address or the authenticator key of that account, there is no way to log in to it.

So am I reading correctly that they created a BOINC account? because there wasnt BOINC when I used it. And I've only used three email addresses ever, so I'm not sure why it's not accepting me.

...because there wasn't BOINC when I used it...

So, did you try the link BilBg posted? [edit]This link can also be found on the SETI homepage, under "Special instructions".[/edit]

There's a paragraph "If your SETI@home Classic email address is no longer valid" on that page.

There, click the link "Claim your SETI@home Classic workunits" and tell us if that worked for you.

Yes, Seti created a Seti account for all the (active) Seti Classic accounts.

The "Claim your SETI@home Classic workunits" link shouldn't work, as those are already linked to a BOINC account. You can still only claim your Classic WU count once and in this case they're claimed for the User ID 557529 account.

To clarify a bit. Seti-Classic accounts where transferred to the Boinc-Seti user database. No Boinc account was actually created. They were just present so you could create a Boinc account using the Classic info. This info can only be linked to a Boinc account once. If you ever created a Boinc account with the email address from Classic or linked it to a Boinc account then Classic is permanently attached to that account and can never be linked to other Boinc account.

Ok. you guys are awesome in making this work.

I called in the help of an old friend and we discovered a long forgotten email, i figured I'd try it, and voila!

Instructions have been emailed to XXXXXXXXXXX@aol.com.

If the email doesn't arrive in a few minutes, your ISP may be blocking it as spam. In this case please contact your ISP and ask them to not block email from setiweb@ssl.berkeley.edu.
--------

I managed to retrieve the password so now THAT is fixed.

Now how do I unlink the old profile and re-link the new on on the BOINC manager?

Do you mean attach to the project using the older BOINC account?

I installed the program and put the login for the "new" account, but now that I've recovered the old account I'd like to change it to the old one. I can't seem to find a 'log out' button!

On the forums here it's at the top of all pages. It shows Your Nickname & log out
Then going to Your Account will give you the choice to log back in.

Please do so before following the steps below, as you will need to set up a new password on that account. If you did do so already, then you can continue.

As for inside BOINC, you will lose any work you're busy with as that cannot be transferred between accounts. For friendliness towards your wingmen, it's best to:

- Open BOINC Manager
- if in Simple View click Advanced view
- Click Projects tab
- Select Seti
- Click No new tasks on the menu on the left
- Click Tasks tab
- Click "Show all tasks" button
- Select all your Seti work in progress and waiting (Only Seti! NOT your Milkyway tasks! Those are a different project and don't need to be bothered)
- Click Abort
- Acknowledge
- Click Projects tab
- Select Seti
- Click Update (to report all the aborted work)
- Check in Tasks tab that all aborted work for Seti only is reported (only work visible is Milkyway's)
- Click Projects tab
- Select Seti
- Click Remove Project
- Acknowledge
- Click on the Menu bar in BOINC Manager at Tools
- Select "Add project or account manager..."
- Add project is selected by default, so click OK
- Select Seti@Home from the drop-down list and click OK
- Select "Yes, existing user" and fill in your xxxxxxxxx@hotmal.com email address and the password you (just) set for that account (^^^ remember it? ^^^) and click OK
- That should attach you to Seti and fetch you new work on the other account.

<3 + hero

I am far too tired to take on so many steps tonight, but will tackle it tomorrow. If you don't hear from me, it worked! Thanks!

Hi,

I'm sorry to use this same thread, but I'm facing a similar issue.

I created an account back in 2002 but I don't even remember which email account I used for this purpose.

I do remember the username.

Could you please let me know what to do in this case?

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

No need for such a long procedure - you have only 1 task on the "KS" account.
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6025167

in BOINC Manager:
Just Remove/Detach from SETI@home project and Add/Attach again to SETI@home project
using the email of the "Kyleia" account. (! Don't type the email - use copy/paste from the "Kyleia" account to avoid errors!)
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=557529

in BOINC Manager:
1) On "Projects" tab select SETI@home and press [Remove/Detach] button (wording depends on BOINC version)

2) From menu "Tools" choose "Add project",
in the dialog select SETI@home and choose "Yes, existing user",
Paste the email of the "Kyleia" account.

No need for such a long procedure

Perhaps not, yet to be fully complete and to teach a relative newcomer to the scene all the steps, why shorten the list and make it either incomplete or more difficult to follow?

Especially as where do you draw the line when it comes to accetable amounts of tasks to throw away? 2? 5? 25? 275? What if the next person thinks, oh I only have 300 tasks, Frak the rest, I just go the short way. That's then 300 tasks out there, that will have to wait for their deadline before they'll be sent out again. So, in my opinion, even if the person only has 1 task, let them abandon & report it, if only for correctness of the procedure.
