No idea, could be several reasons. We could start with the messages in your Messages Tab, or if you're using BOINC 6.12 then the messages in your Event Log should give a clue. |

Insofar as the only "recent" computer he has listed is a new addition as of 11:00 UTC today, it's probably a combination of no work available from the project and the weekly outage. The others haven't contacted the project in months. |

Hello, I am new here. I installed boinc and added Seti@home and allowed the programm access to the internet. In my account info on this page I see that a task has been assigned to my pc and two others. But here on my desktop the boinc windo does not react. It says "calculation stopped" and when I try to click on any of te buttons (messages is blinking red) nothing happens but the windows bling sound. Right clicking the tray icon gives me a menu with only grey buttons, cannot click any of them. Is this they way it should be? |

It's not only one task. In total eight tasks have been assigned to your computer and four of them should be running concurrently. Did you try a reboot of your PC already? Gruß, Gundolf |

Most buttons need you to select some row (project, task) before you can click them. Are you sure the message is exactly "calculation stopped"? Usually it is "Suspended - <and here is the reason why>". I presume you are using Advanced View. Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Thanks for the fast replies. I rebooted after the install. The task manager shows 4 tasks (I have a quad core) which are working now. Previously the CPU was loaded with some bitcoin stuff which is off now. The message in the boinc manager window is: "Berechnungen angehalten" with those yellow circles "loading" from left to right. The message when the curser floats above the tray icon is the following: "Rechnen ist erlaubt" (Calculating allowed) "GPU Berechnung wurde angehalten" (GPU calculation stopped) "Computer wird benutzt, Nutzung des Netzwerks erlaubt" (PC beeing used, networking allowed) But I cannot change any preferences or anything else in the boinc manager window, buttons are unclickable. |

Does the BOINC manager status line (bottom right corner) show "Verbunden mit localhost (BOINC version)"? [edit]I'm also assuming now that you are in advanced view. Is the menu bar accessible?[/edit] Gruß, Gundolf |

I did not find any line saying "Verbunden mit localhost (BOINC version)" or anything similar. The main thing which strikes me odd, is that I cannot move the Boinc Manager window or even click one of its buttons. From the info I get from this page (my account info) Seti is obvioulsy working, I have 14 assigned tasks, of which one has been completed and the other ones are beeing calculated. The screensaver is working now, btw. I am happy to contribute :) |

If you are not in Advanced View - switch to it ("button" is at the bottom-right of the Simple View) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Sounds like a crashed BOINC to me. That the screen saver is working is because that's a separate program. Even the science applications are separate programs. They can happily continue to work while BOINC (the managing program) is crashed. Have you tried a new reboot yet? Yes, you rebooted after installation, but that was the one where the installer could finalize the BOINC accounts etc. What we're asking is if you can do a renewed reboot. That will reset a crashed program... |

Ok if the important stuff is still functioning I wont reboot now. Will do that later. If I do not post anything later on, consider this problem sovled. |

Well, there's the problem. Yes, the important stuff may still be working in the background, but it's not functioning as it should. See, the project application will try to write a checkpoint of where it is every so often, which is a process checked up on by BOINC. Without BOINC this process could be chucking out complete garbage at this time. So it's best to do a full reboot as soon as is possible. |

Thanks for the info. I rebooted, now it is all fine. Except that it wont use the GPU, at least I have no load on it. I even used the advanced mode to change the settings to allow boinc to use the GPU at any time. Still not effect. Just the four CPU cores are maxed out. |

Except that it wont use the GPU, at least I have no load on it. You have an ATI GPU. This project will only use that GPU when you manually tell it to do so, through a so called anonymous platform file, with associated 3rd party science application. The only GPUs that this project will use by default, without manual intervention, are nVidia GPUs. If you truly want to use the ATI GPU and don't mind going from day-one newbie to advanced user, then take a look at the Lunatics download page. Full release notes here. |

Thanks again, but I prefer not to mess too much with my system. I asked our friend google about ATI cards and found out that by simply adding another project which supports ATI, I can make good use of it. And now I also help in develping a model of the milkyway :) And I have to say, my GPU cooler is a bit loud. And still the GPU gets hot. I will have to monitor this for a while, would be a shame if it got hotter than 90°, because in this case I would have to call it a day. |
