Can anyone tell me why when friday comes i cannot download any work units, and i mean every friday it is most frustrating to leave my comp on 24/7 and no seti work gets done on friday. Sometimes it will restart downloads on saturday or sunday. Thanks guys. M/B ROG rampage IV. i7-3930k O/clocked 4.20Mhz. 2 x O/clocked GTX670. 16Gb DDR3. 256 Gb SSD. 1500W Toughpower PSU. |

I've not been seeing this problem. But now I am retired, observation has shown that for us UK users, probably the best time to download is, after most of the USA is asleep and before Europe gets to work. So that is from about 07:00 to 09:00. Therefore make sure, with a few clicks on the update button, that you are not in a long, 3 to 4 hour back-off during that period. It does help not been stuck in a traffic jam when commuting to work at that time of the day. |

If this means you are running out of WU to crunch, you might consider changing: (On your ACCOUNT page) Preferences When and how BOINC uses your computer: Computing preferences then: Maintain enough work for an additional: -- days |

If this means you are running out of WU to crunch, you might consider changing: Boinc is set to run always, i am just not getting any WU downloaded due to communication deferred. But remember this only happens from friday morning, and i mean every friday. It is so outrageous it is laughable.. This is some info from your PC: SETI@home Enhanced 6.03 windows_intelx86 Number of tasks completed 436 Max tasks per day 509 Number of tasks today 0 Consecutive valid tasks 400 Average processing rate 12.291274075893 Average turnaround time 0.80 days SETI@home Enhanced 6.08 windows_intelx86 (cuda) Number of tasks completed 43 Max tasks per day 111 Number of tasks today 0 Consecutive valid tasks 11 Average processing rate 254.92079837477 Average turnaround time 2.74 days "Average turnaround time" shows you probably have "Maintain enough work" set for 2-3 days. The "run always" option you are referring to, is not a guarantee you will always have WU to crunch. It just means Boinc will always be ready to go to work, whether you've got WU to crunch, or not. If you follow the previous instructions and change the number of days to something like 5 or 7, it should be enough to get you through, not only Fridays but normal weekly outages too. So no need to stress over the "retry now" button:) |

I should have maybe asked my question in a different way so here it is. Is it normal for the download servers to be not operating on a friday.. Thanks guys. Is it normal for the download servers to be not operating on a friday.. Thanks guys. The answer can be read inbetween the lines of the responses given. To answer directly, no, it is not usual for the servers to refuse downloads on Fridays. Most people get work every day of the week except during the maintenance period on Tuesdays. |

And, specifically, neither the schedulers nor the download servers are down on this particular Friday - though they were this time last week. |

Hi i have just set the maintain enough work to 10 days. Did BOINC request work when you did this? And if so, did the tasks download successfully? |
Did BOINC request work when you did this? And if so, did the tasks download successfully?
Hi some tasks were downloaded at that time and run and uploaded, at this exact point in time the boinc manager tasks tab has 79 entries awaiting download and they are not dowloading, if i try clicking on update responce is (communication deferred ) and this has been normal for me every weekend. Come monday all will return to normal, next friday here we go again. Did BOINC request work when you did this? And if so, did the tasks download successfully? 'Update' is the wrong button to click under those circumstances. 'Update' would report completed work, and (possibly) request new work. If you have work already assigned, but waiting to download, it actually makes matters worse by wasting bandwidth. Instead, switch to the 'Transfers' tab in BOINC Manager, and click 'Retry Now' for one of the stalled downloads. That would give you another chance to get hold of the work you've been assigned. |

Did BOINC request work when you did this? And if so, did the tasks download successfully? Clicking 'Update' won't help getting your downloads to download, it'll report any uploaded tasks, and maybe ask for more work, which you'll still need to download, If you go to the Transfers tab, use Shift and select a number of downloads, then click 'Retry Now' your downloads will attempt connections again, Claggy Edit: Beaten again. |
