The question has been ask multiple times by multiple users, with no response. Why is the upload server disabled? Is this to allow the database to rebuild? How about some answers!

It's the Storage Server that's having it's Raid Rebuilt as the 1st post says, Nothing wrong with the Database Servers,

Yes.

This is a part of a post by Rob Smith earlier this morning...

If previous outages like this are anything to go by then until they are convinced that the RAID is stable they won't turn on the other services like uploads and work unit generation.

Give them time to get the raid stabilized and they are sure everything is running right.

I imagine S@H has no use for an old dual core (two cpus, 4 cores total) tyan s2892 with 8gb ddr400 memory, can up that to maybe 12gb with memory on hand if that's a yes. BTW it's in a 4U Rack Mountable chassis. Most of it's life was spent powered off, It's been on crunching wu's since about February, other than that in a closet. Either noisy or hot, so I didn't end up using it.

Eric, Matt, and Jeff don't read these boards on a regular basis, certainly not when the system is down and they are trying to get it fixed.

I'm a cruncher, not a staffer. I, too, have results ready to upload. I don't know, nor do I need to know, why they took the upload server off-line.

My best guess is that when a result is uploaded, it is not stored on the upload server, but passed through to the data storage drive array which has malfunctioned. If that is the case, there may be no place to put uploaded results, so taking that server off-line makes sense.

When they get either the Storage Server Array fixed, or the temporary storage ready on Thumper, they will turn uploads back on, and tell us about it.

Until then, we wait patiently.

And it gives me something to do reading all these posts.

Read the first post in this thread. SETI isn't sending/receiving WU's right now due to server issues.

At this point (22:00 PDT Friday night) it will probably be sometime Tuesday afternoon Berkeley time (PDT=UTC-7).

Don't be so pessimistic. ;-)

It wouldn't be the first time, that someone of the S@h crew is at the weekend in the lab.

OTOH, maybe the hardware work is done - and a remote control from at home would be the last thing for to bring up the project again.

If you have '> CPUs x2' ULs in the transfers overview in BOINC, BOINC don't ask for new work.

For example, QUAD-CPU -> 9 ULs and no work request.
