After Six years and more than 7km's on the Red Planet, NASA is putting the Mars Rover Spirit to sleep. Not bad for a project that was scheduled to last 3 months!

It really has been an astonishing performance.
Congratulations to the engineering team that made it possible and all the staff related to the project.
I hope the next one (bigger and more complex) which will be sent at the end of this year will last as long as its predecessor did. It will be hard to beat this, though.
Opportunity is still working, by the way.
Amazing!

BTW only 2.5 more miles until Opportunity gets to the Endeavour crater. Current odometer reading 18.46 miles.

FOr sale low mileage Rover...

I was actually sad to see this rover die. I enjoyed watching its raw image data. But it did last longer than they could ever have hoped. I hope Opportunity can make it for at least one more year.
