@madmac - Send me a pm with your postcode and I'll look into what the upgrade timescales are for you. Depending upon how rural you are, you may be having the same problems that our John Clark is. He maybe is looking into satellite Broadband.

I was planning on getting fiber through Versions FIOS when it came to my area. I thought $65/mo for middle package of 25Mb/25Mb was decent. As I pay about $50/mo for 15Mb/5Mb now with Comcast.
Sadly when I had called Version, three years ago when I moved into the place, they were to incompetent to even manage getting the standard phone line hooked up after a period of 3 months. So I have sworn them off forever on principle.
Honestly, I don't have any issues with my connection now as far as speed is concerned. In the area I live both companies have fiber running all over to distribution boxes. So I'm only a few hundred feet from fiber as it is.

I would have to say that China does not have the fastest avaible. My wife is from China, and she vists all the time, she is there now, and when we try to use yahoo messenger or skype at any of her family's homes, it is very difficult.I have no problem video chatting with Europe, or within the USA. Maybe the backbone is fast, and the individual conections are slow, or maybe it just gives the government censors time to check things. Either way it is not very good there.

I'm satisfied with this.. though it is slightly misleading.

These bandwidth tests are small enough to fit inside of the PowerBoost envelope, so the results are skewed. Normally 13/2, but the first ~50MB down and ~30MB up get the above speeds.

This is about what I normally get.

My ISP is actually Golden Valley Cable, but it gets the IP block from NPG cable of Bullhead City, AZ.

I'm out your way about once a year or so. In Laughlin then go down to Lake Havasu, my uncle lives there. We join up with the old Rampart division guys from the LAPD. Fun bunch of guys that are retired out in those areas now, such a blast!

Well, judging by all your replies, it seems that I'm doing quite well. I did rather expect our American friends to be at least on a par. But apparently not so.(so far)

It's not exactly a contest as such, well at least it was never intended to be one. Just a little surprised at the feedback so far. We in the UK are continually being told that we lag behind the rest of the world in broadband, maybe not.

Here is Verizon DSL in MA. I used to have cable, which was better speed-wise, but my connection kept constantly dropping which was really annoying since I work from home. Comcast did troubleshooting on it for almost a year before I gave up and switched to DSL. I would like to get FIOS, but it's not available in my city. For $30/month, I'm happy enough with my connection.

For a 'prestigious' business park, I'm having to use TWO adsl lines where each gives just 512kbit/s. They don't work after heavy rain, or if there has been a frost and sudden thaw in the morning.

The BT alternative is to pay many thousands of pounds a year for a leased line at 2Mbit/s maximum...

Oh, and they signed a deal with the site builders so that it was their ducting that was laid down, and noone else can get on site or use the ducts...

This is all on a site just a few miles from the city centre.

Is this the UK or Timbuktu?

(No insult intended on Timbuktu.)

I pay $54US for 20Mb/s. After changing to a DOCSIS3 cable modem I got 60Mb/s for almost a year then Comcast reduced it to around 30Mb/s.

Looks like I don't do to bad on my 15Mb/3Mb line at home.

I was getting really high numbers for any place within 100 miles so I think one is slightly more realistic.

Once I get past 1000 miles it start to drop off, but even to the other side of the planet it isn't to bad.
