Hello, | |

I think that depends on the frequency at which the radiotelescope operates. Maybe the ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter Array) being built on the Atacama highland in Chile could do that kind of research.

Receiving radio frequent waves, f.i. 1.4GHz. or The waterhole (or "water hole") refers to an especially quiet band of the electromagnetic spectrum between 1420 and 1666 Megahertz, corresponding to wavelengths of 21 and 18 centimeters respectively. The term was coined by Bernard Oliver. (Source: WiKiPedia)

I don't see the answer on the Green Bank Web page. How much did this radio telescope cost to build?

I don't see the answer on the Green Bank Web page. How much did this radio telescope cost to build? It is not sufficient to build it. You must also finance its operation. We have a new radiotelescope in Sardinia but the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica has no money to operate it, so it stands idle. Tullio ____________

I don't see the answer on the Green Bank Web page. How much did this radio telescope cost to build? Well I meant building and operating it. How much is the operating costs for the radio telescope in Sardinia? The Allen Array recently shut down here in the U.S. We waste so much money building roads to no where but can't fund a $2 million a year to search for other civilizations in the Galaxy.

I just hope we can crunch the work units before the Rapture begins on Saturday ;) :P

Fromt the article "Once UC Berkeley astronomers acquire 24 hours of data on a total of 86 Earth-like planets, they’ll initiate a coarse analysis and then, in about two months, ask an estimated 1 million SETI@home users to conduct a more detailed analysis on their home computers."

Frankly I don't know. I have visited the INAF site and could not find any financial statement. All Italian scientific institutions have had their funding cut by the Government and are striving to survive, besides meeting their international commitments. It has a 64 meter diameter fully steerable antenna and looks like a first class instrument. Tullio ____________

Just speculating here, but I can think of several reasons why the team would want to perform a coarse analysis.

I just hope we pick up a signal then we would definitely see all Seti programs funded. ;)

Yes. We can all stop now.

Yes. We can all stop now. I am pretty sure if that were the case, we would not be crunching data from the telescope. Also if this were the case, I would think it would make international headlines. Thus far, that has not happened. ____________ "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible". Hebrews 11.3

did green bank found some planet with atmosphere or comfortably temperature? or some intersting planet~ The Green Bank radiotelescope cannot find any planet. They were found by the Kepler space mission. Tullio ____________

did green bank found some planet with atmosphere or comfortably temperature? or some intersting planet~ No but Kelper has and that is why Green Bank is listening.

Everybody lived through it, except Harold Camping; he died of embarrassment!

The family and I joked about joining a "Post-rapture looting party". We even busted out some burlap sacks. :)
