	Hello, Do we will get informations about the results of this project when its finished? i mean any kind of results? I have another question: maybe somewhere this question had been already answerd. But somewhere i read that it is possible to analyze the chemical composition of the atmosphere form an extrasolar planet via spectral analysis (looking vor O2, CH4, and stuff like that) Do they try to analyze the athmosphere of this 90 Kepler field stars planets? Maybe thats a way to detect "lower" liveforms. greetings

	I think that depends on the frequency at which the radiotelescope operates. Maybe the ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter Array) being built on the Atacama highland in Chile could do that kind of research. Tullio ____________

	I don't see the answer on the Green Bank Web page. How much did this radio telescope cost to build? Any lottery winners out there? How about building one dedicated 100% to Seti. If I win a lot I would do it. :)

	Fromt the article "Once UC Berkeley astronomers acquire 24 hours of data on a total of 86 Earth-like planets, they’ll initiate a coarse analysis and then, in about two months, ask an estimated 1 million SETI@home users to conduct a more detailed analysis on their home computers." So SETI@home get's in on the act in July or so. Meanwhile a "coarse analysis" is performed. Can we get an understanding of what that means? Coarse analysis done how and by what? I thought our SETI@home efforts is the analysis being done. Why the dely and why do this serially? Why not put the data to SETI@home immediatly? Or for that matter why not as real time as possible? Anyone have any understanding as to when this effort was planned and who planned it this way? I would think that our parallel processing effort supercomputations is the fastest way to analyze this data and would be the most productive. Has there been any efforts to enhance the methods used to identifiy artificial vice natural emissions? Would seem this is the best efforts in this arena in a while. 800Mhz of bandwidth in a given instant constitutes a lot of potential sources of emissions.. Anyways, I'm looking forward to this evolution of SETI@home and a more focused search can't hurt. Anyone out there can answer any of the above? ____________

Frankly I don't know. I have visited the INAF site and could not find any financial statement. All Italian scientific institutions have had their funding cut by the Government and are striving to survive, besides meeting their international commitments. It has a 64 meter diameter fully steerable antenna and looks like a first class instrument. Tullio ____________

	Just speculating here, but I can think of several reasons why the team would want to perform a coarse analysis. The frequency response is not likely to be even across the entire 800 Mhz band, there may be 'holes' in that spectrum, and the digitizing equipment will be quite different. All those characteristics may change over time, and with where the antenna is pointing. The team will need to analyze all that before handing out work units. A coarse analysis might also yield data indicating that some targets are more 'interesting' than others. It would make sense to queue up work units from those targets first. And it is quite possible that code changes will be required, which may or may not result in distribution of a new client version. In a different vein, I just took a look at the GBT observation schedule. Seti@Home is scheduled for 23.5 hours of observing time through May 22, so I'm guessing the end of July or beginning of August is when we'll see work units coming through. My birthday is July 30... maybe S@H will send me a present! ____________
