Folks we are in the middle of a dull blown solar storm.
Check http://spaceweather.com/
to get a handle on what is going on out side right now.

That is awesome, CT!!
I'm wondering if striking a match while burping would produce similar colors down here, on a much smaller scale of course. Seriously, seeing that sure makes me wish I was a little farther north.

The pictures are beautiful, but what I really find amazing is the trillions of watts dissipated that gives an aurora its beauty. If one could only harness that energy...

No fair CT
There's no sign of activity from my location. Great photos.

I always regret not having a camera for that one night several years ago when the aurora was complete from the East/West horizons to it's peak straight above.
Every colour was involved.
I felt like an ant at the base of a skyscraper.

Hi:
Please don't be mistaken, I am not the one who has taken these pix. I get them from http://spaceweather.com/ living this far north we get a fare share of northern light displays.
Robert I see that you live in Prince George, and for some reason the displays always are north and east of where you live. I do remember years ago in the 1980s when I was at school, one week end there was a show that was so strong I could hear the sky crackle. I know that you are not supposed to be able to hear the aurora, but that night, myself and all the people who were with me could hear it.
I have been waiting all this time for a repeat, and this summer we are going into another solar cycle. (Hope, hope.)

Well no matter where or who took that bottom pic, I don't know of any words to really adequately describe that, But I can say thanks for sharing that pic and the other one too. Who knows? Maybe You'll get lucky this cycle.

Well it looks like things may be hotting up again on the sun.

This blast has mostly missed the earth, but more may be on the way.

If you live in the north plains states in the US, or as far south as Calgary in the Canadian west you may get a bit of a light show tonight from the aurora, baring clouds of course. Even in central British Columbia.
Good luck, even better tomorrow night.
