Best wishes, James.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've been putting this surgery off for some time - your comments have encouraged me to make that appointment.

Folks: don't respond to me - it's his thread.

Glad all is going well for you, James.
Your experience was much like mine.....much worry and jitters going in, but when it was over it was like...wow, that was nothing.
When I had my second eye done, no worries at all.

Hope you rest well, keep up the eye drops, and things shall continue to improve.

Both my parents had to wear the eye patch the whole first day after the surgery.

Dad went first, and when he took his normal mid-day nap during the baseball game, Mom put one of her 3-foot tall stuffed flamingos (pirate version, of course) on his shoulder. (They were at one time regular visitors to the Flamingo Hilton in Laughlin, Nevada, and...)

I have a polaroid of it somewhere....

Well I had my follow up this morningat the eye dr.s. He said my eye looks great and after he gave me the eye test he said my vision in that eye is now 20/20. I can see very clear now. I can even read my computer screen at arms length. How ever I still need my bi focals for reading up close. I go back in 3 weeks for another exam to get another eye exam and new glasses.

Mark I will do the drops with out fail, and i will wear the patch on my eye at bedtime, I will not put my new sight at risk.

I have a cataract in my right eye but it isnt in my line of sight yet and the Dr. wasnt worried about it yet. But you can bet that when i notice it, It is going to go.

Fred, Im glad your inspired to get it taken care of. You wont regret it. And you can PM if you need to. And Im sure Mark will help you also. Hes the reason I had mine done.

Talk about monkey see, monkey do.... What a bunch we got here. Glad everyone is doing so well but this should be sent in as a commercial for each of your doctors!! :-) Maybe next appointment you can show this thread to your doctors. We might get a few more crunchers that way!

James, Fred....and any others.

I am so happy if my recounting of my personal experience with cataract surgery in any way helped you make the decision to get yours done.

And if anybody else is for any reason sitting on the fence....
Do not fear it. It is a major decision, to be sure, but not one to be afraid of.

It is hard to describe getting back most or all of what one had as a younger person and took for granted then.

Thanks all - It's not so much a fear of the surgery that made me hold back, but rather some things that may be unique for me. It was more like how do I lean on my grown kids for a little help when they're already in stress mode - one from an employer on the rocks, and another and his wife in full speed mode from starting up some new locations for their startup business. I'm already watching my grandkids for them, who does that? A daughter can't drive me or help much due to a disabilty, but she can cover the grandkids. The other son lives 200 miles from here, and is also working extra hard right now. My late wife and I always said the kids come first, and I'm committed to her to continue that.

I also have some old memories from a plane crash scene that kept popping up when I tried to sit down and focus on it. They're too unpleasnant to discuss here. James, your comments made me do that and I thank you for it. I've told the kids about this, and of course, there's a workaround for every thing that made me put it off. I can deal with those old memoties.

Folks, those comments were just to help you understand how someone can put off a no brainer decision. I'm not looking for anything back from you - you've already said plenty of nice things.

If there are typos in this post, the lunatics made me do it. :)

Thanks, James. Will do, except discussion here needs to get back to you. How are you doing now? Can't get a toaster? I found out you can't arrange delivery of the cobblestones. Need them to fix the driveway.

Im doing great Fred. If I go outside i do need to wear sunglasses. Dr. Said that the new implant will let a lot more light in than my old occluded lens did. He was right. The eye will get used to it though. But 99% of the times I wear sunglasses outside anyway.

I noticed a greater sensitivity to light after my implants as well.
Sunglasses are a good idea, although my implants actually have UV filtering built into them...so although the light level is harsh at times, the damaging part is partially blocked by the lenses.

And in 1 week, I go in for the final Lasik tweak to my right eye. If it works out as good as the adjustment on my left did, I should be good to go.

Glad its going well for you Mark. I have a question for you, Did you notice that doing your job was easier?
My right eye has been doing all the work for a few years now. I think im going to be shocked at how well I can see my parts and calipers and mics.

Thanks Klc53. Im doing great.

edit. Thats a good point Mark about the UV rays. I need to ask my Dr. That. But I will get a good pair of sunglasses with UV protection to.
