After reading Marks posts, And talking with a guy at work who just had his done a few months ago. I saw an eye surgeon yesterday. Im scheduled for June 21. I got tired of reading, Watching T.V., Or a movie with one eye. But in my job I need to have both eyes to use my mics and calipers and other tools. Plus doing visual checks. Last year my corrected vision in my left eye was 20/25. This year its 20/50. So Mark thanks for your postings. You got me off my keyster.
Old James |

Hi: I found out yesterday that I will be going in on June 6th to get my right eye lined up, plus I need the lens replaced. Seeing the world double in the day time, and not seeing out of the eye by night at all has become very tiresome. Good luck with it all. celttooth |

And the best wishes to both of you...... I am doing well now..... Will probably have lasik on my right eye in a month or so to do a final astigmatism correction and that's about it. Still need a bit of glasses at times for close up things, but all in all, sure beats being blind in my right eye!!! Don't need glasses for driving or walking about...very good for general things now. Before I could only really see much out of my left eye. The procedures are far more scary to ponder about than the reality of them. Never had more than a moderate amount of discomfort after the surgeries, and it passed within a day. Do not worry about getting it done. Hope all goes well for you both. Meow! Mark, If it is marked on your drivers lic. that you are restricted to wearing glasses you better get it changed. A cop with an attitude could write you a ticket for not having them on. A friend had to take out a contact lens to show she was actually wearing them one time when she got stopped for something. On a side note, One time when I renewed my lic. the lady at the DMV asked me to try the eye checker without my glasses. I told her I couldn't see it without them but she insisted so I took them off. When she asked me to read the lowest line I could read I said "E". Then I told her I really couldn't see it I just knew all the eye charts start with it. She just shut up and finished with my lic. The cataract surgery on my left eye, and the followup Lasik on my left, caused me no worries at all after having been through the first one. One more Lasik to go. Meow!! Cataract surgery has become a very common surgery nowadays...not to be worried. Yeah, what Blurf said. Both my late parents had cataract surgery, back around 2002. Original schedule two weeks between eyes. Surgery on Tuesday, check on Wednesday & Friday. They healed so quickly, and had enough vision improvement, that the second eye was moved up to the following week. Quick, clean, and the world looks a whole lot better. My eye doctor says I'll probably have to have it done in 10-15 years. Not looking forward to it, but not worried about it, either. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

So far I don't have any cataracts in either eye, I did have to enlarge the font size here in the browser to something larger, several times larger in fact, As I can't read the screen with My glasses or without at the normal size, My eyes are 20/40 & 20/50 I can look at My watch without My glasses and the watch looks blurry, Yet I wear My glasses and I can read It or anything else that's printed. thankfully the TV is large enough that glasses there don't make much difference and yeah so far so good at age 50, strawberry preserves I think have helped slow down My aging here some(I have a distant relative who looks older than 50, Like 60!), But then I've been eating strawberry preserves for most of My life. I just wish the rest of Me was that good, accidents and time, sigh. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Jim, I am sorry to hear that you need surgery, but I am sure the outcome will be excellent. I'm already running scared of what your punning ability will be when your vision is fully restored! |

Thanks for all the well wishes. The cataract in my left eye is the fast growing kind. I do have one in my riht eye but its still small and slow growing and is below my line of sight so I dont notice it yet. I asked how they form and one of the reason is ultra violet light. So wear your uv blocking sunglasses you youngens.
Old James |

The right eye went from maybe to nothing in a few monthes. Grey to black.......... It was rather suicidal................. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I'd need some clip ons then, And currently their not on My list anytime soon. UV has nothing to do with existing cataracts...... I suggest you check your sources and restrict your comments to something you have learned firsthand or had your experience about. Your secondhand at best, references, are a bit tiring,.
