"and playing games" of those choices would be
2x GTX 460, hands down. DirectX 11, Physx, etc... many of the newer games will
not work nearly as well on the older cards.

And with optimized fermi code in the works for crunching.. Definately go 460's.

460's all the way. At this point in time it's pretty dumb to even think about 8800's unless you are getting them super cheap or free. My 8800 runs the same times etc. as my GTS 250, and the 460 makes my 250 look really really bad.

hi there thanks for the fast reply the 8800 are only 100$ the 460 is 300$ so for one card i will buy 3 :D
Now i'm considering to buy 2x560 because the price is 320$ for the 560 or total 640$ because i thing the 460 is weak for that kind of money.

I think the best bang for the money is 2 used GTX295s, with some money left over. Each one can almost keep up with a GTX580. You would end up with an RAC of around 45000+ with this setup.

Go for the latest generation to take advantage of the "fermi" architecture. You'll gain access to a far wider range of applications that will take advantage of that.

The Lunatics are working on a fermi application now for s@h...

3x460, either version(except SE), will be best. He has MoBo with three x16 slots anyway. No TriSLI if this counts.

Just for comparisons, I am running two 480's on my rig. I crunch 24/7/365, and am very happy with the #12 spot on the top 20 rigs. Yes, I am using water cooling for both CPU, and GPU's, which helps a great deal. My RAC is totally from 1 rig.

I would like to run 2 6990.
Could be interesting.
But AMD has to improve the drivers first.
Also SDK of course.

Definately 570s...better power consumption, run cooler and just as fast or faster than the 480s.

Prices where you are must suck though. I can get 1 gig GTX 460s for $150 Canadian now, while 560s are $230

These two options would be roughly the same performance & fine choices. The 2x570's would acheive the same with fractionally (well perhaps quite a bit) less power/heat & noise, though then you would probably end up OCing higher.

There are arguments that the 3 x 560ti would be more productive, though nothing would stop you adding a third 570 later, provided sufficent PSU is available. Talking with guys behind the scenes that run multiple 480s, 2 OC'd with water cooling requires about a 1000 watt - 1200 Watt supply, preferably single +12V rail. A good choice would likely be the Corsair AX 1200 & allow for if you add a third card later, whether you go with the 570s or the 480s.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/38626-nvidia-geforce-gtx-570-review.html

read this, especially the power consumption, folding and temperature sections.

It's not a little less power, it's like 100 Watts per card at load.

Yeah, that lower power yet higher performance is the deal clincher IMO. Got to keep in mind that since more OC headroom becomes available, then you tend to push harder to absorb the power reduction ;)

While I would consider the folding tests there as representative in a very general way of what would happen here, in testing we see quite a lot of power variation between application builds, so there could be quite different power picture between existing & forthcoming applications. That just means to regard the power & temp estimates as highly dependant on what you do with them.
