Message 1096804 - Posted: 13 Apr 2011, 13:40:40 UTC

Hi I had quit SETI@Home for a while and got an e-mail last week to please do some more work, so I added S@H back to my BOINC projects. It downloaded probably 60 work units and started turning them in. Late last week it came up with the message GPU missing, Ready to start & Waiting to run, and has not worked on the last 36 units in 4 or 5 work days.

I did not change anything on my drivers, nor have I installed any Windows updates since getting these work units. I have a 6 monitor station with 4 graphics cards (2+2+1+1). Cards are Nvidia 9800, 9500, and two 8400s. All 4 were processing units for a few days before mysteriously stopping. Workstation is an AMD Black 965 Quad Core and XP Pro SP3 with 4GB of DDR3.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you using remote desktop to access that computer? If so, that would explain your problems, since it replaces the standard drivers with its own and those aren't CUDA capable.

See if a reboot (without remote desktop) fixes it.

Message 1098717 - Posted: 18 Apr 2011, 14:31:50 UTC - in response to Message 1096837.

I have never used Remote Desktop. I checked services and it is set to manual and not running. Rebooting has not helped. This machine is only on during business hours and is booted daily.

At some point SETI decided I suddenly had no GPUs and they have never come back.

I have held off from installing XP updates due to this SETI issue. What can we do to fix this?

Message 1098779 - Posted: 18 Apr 2011, 18:47:25 UTC - in response to Message 1098723.

I uninstalled 6.10.58 and then installed 6.10.60. Left it for a few hours to work, checked again and it still says, "GPU missing, waiting to run" and "GPU missing, Ready to start" on all the SETI GPU work units.

Post the first 40-50 lines from the Messages tab after restart of BOINC, may give us some clue.

My "example" is from stderr.txt - not BOINC. Click the link above the "example".

What is the version of NVIDIA driver?

Does GPU-Z properly detect and show the 4 (or 3?) GPUs?:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

(GPU-Z shows the Driver Version)
(At the bottom of GPU-Z window you can change which GPU is shown)

If you can - post the screenshots (.png) from GPU-Z
e.g. using this site:
http://ploader.net/

(Use the last link #3, mark the line (link) while posting, press [Img] button (above) - this will surround the link with [img]..../XXXX.png[/img] tags)

You can also save the screenshots as .gif using the "Photo" button in the GPU-Z interface (top-right)
which will look like this:
