Message 1101737 - Posted: 29 Apr 2011, 16:00:00 UTC - in response to Message 1101672.

Is anyone else experiencing d/l problems? Both of my machines have been attempting to d/l since 23:30 last night. The cricket graphs haven't been updated since 06:08 this morning.

The only issue I have seen in the past few days was between 3:49AM and 4:37AM this morning. Some downloads went into backoff several times during that window, but it cleared up afterwords.

Might have been showing that, but I just this second uploaded a completed WU.
Might have been offline for just a short bit as the status page was being updated.
Current status is green.

I have a boatload of downloads, but they are downloading.

I hit the retry button once on the Frozen 920 a bit ago, it had a ton of work in the download queue.
After about 30 minutes, it all has cleared.

Yes everyone is experiencing UL/DL problems right now, and as was mentioned earlier the reason is there is a lot of short runtime work being split currently.

I've noticed i'm starting to queue up a few longer Work Units for download, but there's still a lot of shorties there.

Intersting the effect of shorties has on cache size.
Usually my cache is around 500-520MB in size, with this shorty storm it's now up to 640MB.

Your cache is defined in the number of hours of work it contains.
Each WU is about the same number of bytes.
Lets say 1 "normal" WU represents 1 hour of work and a "short" WU 0.5 hour of work, and a WU contains 300k bytes of data.
Your cache is set at ten hours.

Simple sums:
If all the WU are "normal", then you will have 10 WU, which will contain 3000k bytes of data
If all the WU are "short", then you will have 20 WU, which will contain 6000k bytes of data.
If 5 of the WU are "normal" then your cache will be made up of 5 "normal" WU and 10 "short" WU, a total of 15 WU, so your cache will now have 4500k bytes of data.

(I've kept the numbers simple - I know the file size in not 300kByte, and the calculation times are not 1hr vs 0.5hr, so don't shout)

Yep, know all that.
Just found it an interesting observation that it has such a significant effect.

BTW- it's taken 2 days & the storm's finally abated.

Replica database (jocelyn) is off-line.
Task list may not show current WU status, but account total credit and RAC are updating properly.
Not cause for panic, just an "obtw".

Cricket seems to have topped out around 40M/B after the outage, not is usual 95+. Obviously that indicates something is rotten in Seti Land.

And the scheduler got disabled not too long ago (an hour or so). Guess that explains why I can't report my three completed tasks.

My two main boxes were finally able to report at about 10:55PM PDT (05:55 UTC). One has a few stuck downloads now, but the other is getting the "no new work" message

Aren't Moderators in the best position to report errors directly back to the powers-that-be?

only on some accounts and not on beta - besides, there haven't been any recent changes to the webcode, with DA being away in Brazil.

So the account errors are SETI rather then BOINC (database or server).

The friend request error might be linked to that or to the recent webcode change with 'login' showing on the pages, best to test that on beta...

What isn't working for me is that from my account page, if I click on any in my friends list, I get

The website cannot display the page
HTTP 500
Most likely causes:
•The website is under maintenance.
•The website has a programming error.

What you can try:
Refresh the page.

Go back to the previous page.

Edit: now it does the same thing no matter where I click on anyones name. It did work for Vyper, but no one else.

Edit #2: Now I can't even get to my team roster. Something strange is going on...
