This high usage started happening this week. This was not normal operation before. This high usage started happening this week. This was not normal operation before. What can I do to stop this method of operation? There is a setting available on both the project web site and in the local UI (the local UI overrides the web site) that reads something like "Suspend computation if CPU usage exceeds X%. This defaults to 25, which appears to be too low for many participants. You should try setting this higher, or turning it off completely. Turning it off completely means setting the value to 0. Most machines can cope with fairly high values for this. I have all of mine set to off so that they always run. BOINC WIKI |

You also have to check which (Normal priority) process is using the CPU >25% so often. Maybe something you installed recently? Or browser with Flash game active (even if minimized it uses CPU) But if you used the computer at that time (8:00-...), e.g. played games, watched HD video, etc., it is normal to see >25% CPU usage. Just change the setting to 0 (zero) to avoid this repeated stop/start of tasks: on web prefs: Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above 0 % (0 means no restriction) or in BOINC Manager: While processor usage is less than [0] percent (0 means no restriction) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Very true, if I want to play games or use your computer for serious stuff, lol. I usually, right click in the system tray and click on suspend, or just exit it out until I'm done. Then restart BOINC, BOINC does not play well with games! Trust me I know after how many reboots trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Hope this helps. |

You can also do this automatically be setting up some exclusive applications in cc_config.xml. If one of these executables is running, BOINC will stop processing. BOINC WIKI |

If you want to set up exclusive applications like John McLeod suggested, here are some instructions: http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?view=491&language=1 This will suspend BOINC processing when any of the applications you specify are running. |
