Apparently the French took the first shots, and the US just fired cruise missiles.
Wonder how far this is gonna escalate.....

Palin lol, god I hope not. Interesting they are saying the French went in first and between the US and French ships there were 110 cruise missile launched along with planes taking out several hundred military targets and vehicles. Think he's getting the message? I hope Obama keeps at least this promise and keeps us out of a ground war there.

Sadly that USA's sitizens money go for such crime as war is.
USA too eager to put its nose into other countries interior affairs.
There are so many better places to put money in, even SETI. Almost all is better than to put money into cruiser missile launched into another country...

The USA has a role in this yes. This is farm from a USA endeavor.

France, Britain, (yet to be named) Arabian nations, Norway, Denmark, Italy..

The bigger question might be: why isn't Russia helping?

There are many answers can be, but I hope because "we" understand that so rough interference into domestic affairs of another country not appropriate for civilized country...
There could be more prosaic and pragmatic answer of course - because "our" interest not touched, "we" don't need Libyan's oil so much as our european neightbourns.... but I still hope that decency aspect dominating...

I honestly believe decency is priority in this conflict.

I think there is nothing gained in military conflict, unless you count wasted money and life. But I also think there is so much one can withstand before striking back, and others should be there to defend.

Russia could have vetoed the measure. And chose not to. That tells me while they may not agree(as a nation) they understand and respect the argument.

Ghadafi has not been a "nice person" nor very balanced mentally. This is not news to anyone. His "friends" are those that tolerate him at all. That number is much less now than before.

I admire your trust.

That Ghadafi is a nut job who should be relieved of power is not in dispute....but Saddam was a nasty nutjob for a long time and was supported by the west until he stopped behaving. Even when he was gassing the Kurdish people and the US led them to believe that if they started a revolution that they would step into help, then stood by while they were slaughtered.

Injustice goes on all over the world, but the west only intervenes when it is in interest to do so. There is no doubt in my mind that this is just another example.

Only time will tell if the west's interests align with those of the revolutionaries within Libya and if they will be allowed to keep control of their oil once this is over.

Well lets just wait and see who aligns themselves with Kadafi.

Guy, I think you know the answer to your query. No nation will align themselves with Libya or Quacky Daffy, or however you spell it.

Why does everyone immediately point to oil? If that was true the only reason the US is free and independent of Britain now is because of oil....yuck. I guess the need to be free is different now? I suppose people forget about the help the US had during it's fight to kick out an over bearing government? This 'could' be the same thing, but it takes their people wanting it for it to happen and stay that way.

In order to be successful with a madman who dismisses the value of human life you must close in with the enemy, eliminate him and occupy ground. The "morality" that prevails is dictated by the strongest.

القذافي has gas and nerve agents as well as sleeper agents in many countries. We may have entered a peeing contest with a skunk. Someone had better cut off the head of this snake or accept the consequences.

With what I know about Persian script (related to Arabic) his name should be transliterated:

al-ghaddafy where the gh is a swallowed glottal stop that might sound vaguely like a K in western phonemes. The al part of the name historically meant the town that the person was from.

I am not a linguist but I almost married one.
