i'm new to ubuntu and i would like to run seti on ubuntu too... i have no idea how i could install that file:

boinc_6.10.58_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh

Copy the file to where you want to install BOINC and, in a terminal (console?), type
sh boinc_6.10.58_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh

danke fuer die hilfe gundolf, aber es kommt dann immer nur "can't open..."
die datei befindet sich unter "downloads", ich bin den windows explorer gewohnt und hab keine ahnung, wie so ein linux filesystem aufgebaut ist... muss ich die datei an einen bestimmten ort verschieben?

Ich hab' keine Ahnung wo die einzelnen linux distros standardmäßig installieren, aber ich glaube, Dein home Verzeichnis (~/home ?) oder /usr/lib/ sind ganz gut für den Anfang.

Hast Du das "sh " vor "boinc_6.10.58_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh" in meiner Nachricht gesehen? ;-)

interessanterweise hat mir der terminal selbst schlussendlich erklaert, wie ich die datei starten kann:

"use /home/boris/BOINC/run_manager to start boinc" ...?

keine ahnung wie der gute darauf gekommen ist, aber es hat funktioniert
