What kind of connection do you have?

Is the MTU setting correct?

Have you tried turning "black hole detection" on in windows?

Do you have some torrent client running (e.g. uTorrent)?
They tend to overload routers with too many simultaneous connections.

Since you have this message:
14/03/2011 22:48:00 SETI@home Reporting 185 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks

this means you have had successful connection to SETI@home in the past
(you successfully downloaded at least 185 SETI@home tasks, computed them (or maybe aborted?), successfully uploaded them and now try to report them (which will be useless since they are too old - timed-out)
)

Do you need to use proxy?
If so - check in BOINC Manager -> Advanced menu -> Options

Message 1087332 - Posted: 15 Mar 2011, 9:57:23 UTC - in response to Message 1087327.

Hi mate..

uTorrent is off.
and right at this point is when i get cut off from the web -- SETI@home Reporting 185 completed tasks ??

its not my account, couse i have log on with my laptop at work and thats fine, so it must be my home computer? must be.. i just cant find why.
i have checked firewall on pc and router, check port forwarding, updated the firmware on the router, its so strange..

Thanks for replying..

Sounds like it may be the MTU setting.

When I asked what kind of connection, I did not mean speed, I meant things like Point to Point Protocol Over Ethernet, Point to Point Protocol, or Heartbeat, etc. 1500 is too large for some of these and it would only fail if you are trying to send files over the MTU size. To tell if it is the MTU size that is causing trouble, you can open a DOS prompt and type the following line:

ping google.com -l 1472 -f

If this complains, then you will need to find the largest ping size where it works and add 28 to that for the MTU setting. Adding 28 is because the IP headers are 28 bytes long and they are counted in the MTU size, but not in the Ping size. For example, you try:

ping google.com -l 1472 -f
and it fails.

ping google.com -l 1400 -f
and it succeeds. (OK, but probably non-optimal)

ping google.com -l 1450 -f
succeeds, but again possibly non-optimal

...

ping google.com -l 1452 -f
succeeds

and

ping google.com -l 1453 -f
fails.

This would make the optimal MTU setting be 1480

OK, the first one tells me that MTU is not the problem as 1500 should work.

The other possibilities all lead to the router somehow. I know that my routers don't do this (none of the three that I have used).

Congratulations!

And (maybe because of this ;) ) you are today "User of the day"

(You are from United Kingdom so maybe ;) you know English better than me
but consider changing "You cant hide ..." to "You can't hide ..." :)
