It's so easy to blame someone else. People need to stop blaming others for their lack of willpower and financial sense.

If I don't have money to buy something, I have the self control not to.

I don't sign up to mortgages I can't afford to pay. If PEOPLE were more responsible, this wouldn't happen.

Maybe some should spend a little less time watching reality TV and a little more learning about financial well being?

How dare the people who work actually have hope.
How dare they try to survive and plan as if their job
is not going to get moved off-shore as soon as the elite
have the funds to move them.
How dare people try to plan a life, pay for food AND shelter
when the elite do not happily pay enough for even one of those, let
alone both.
How dare they demand to be treated fairly. How dare they demand
they are not the only ones paying taxes.

The trickle down economics have proven over and over it is simply
someone on the top floor of the 2 story outhouse drinking champagne
and "recycling" it to the lower level that supports them.

Gee it looks like the decline has begun. At least with our ability to record current events there will be no lack of facts to help future students map out the reasons why such a great state went under, and why no one was able to step in to stop the decline. All that will be left will be the opportunity for some emerging empire to learn from the folly that was the United States of America.

Wrong...first, if working people have too much money, how is it they can't afford the house? Also, it was the super rich that KNOW how to handle their finances that supplied the investments to the mortgage funds.

Wrong...I do agree working people use too much credit. There's been a stagnation in earnings for working people since the Reagan administration. If, as you've stated, working people have too much money, why would they be overusing credit? Why would bankruptcies be increasing?

Wrong...the vast majority of working people do indeed scrimp, the problem, despite your claim they have too much money, is that most have no savings due to a shortfall in earnings vs the rising costs of living in North America. This malady, of course, does not affect the super rich who have enjoyed 30 to 40 years of sustained growth in their personal portfolios.

Return to the taxation levels that existed at the end of WWII, including the inheritance tax.
Introduce a Tobin tax.
Close the corporate loopholes in the taxation system that allow corporations making record profits to not only avoid paying taxes but actually receive tax credits from the people.

Let's start with these and evaluate the situation at a later date.
The super rich were still super rich back then and the working people made their greatest moves forward by being a working class that possessed some disposable income.

The problem is, the income is disposed of by the working class too quickly and without regard to the future.

And yeah, yet me bring out the story of My Grandparents: Born way before Depression, lived thru it, yada yada, and when they died had 6 figures of Buckarooskis in The Bankola. Why? I think We All Know Why. They never made it to Middle ClassVille either.

We could start by repealing the ill considered bush tax cuts, re-instating inheritance taxes. Nationalize health care.

Well after reading your post the part that kind of jumps out is the idea that we Canadians are not aware of the taxes we pay. Plus it reads like you want us to tax goods based on their country of origin.
Now that you have brought it up, (I guess I better get started on our taxes soon.) after paying GST tax (Gouge and Screw Tax) why add on extra taxes? Oh by the way in the workers paradise of Alberta we don't pay extra sales tax.
Perhaps rather than criticizing the way we do things, you could ask why things seem to works as well as they do up here.

That is actually not true your dollar buys you less today than it did in 1980. Not to mention the slide in wages. Thats wage stagnation in comparison to inflation. working class folk make less than they think.

Well not true, the homeless don't pay anything,
and people like me get GST refunds three or four times a year.
Lucky people like me who live on insurance pay outs don't even pay
income tax, as my income is called casual income, not bad.

Like I say "We don't have a perfect system, but at least we don't have twenty
percent of the people fighting with the other eighty percent.
