Hi, I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, a lot, but I can't find any of those threads. Today suddenly all my CUDA tasks would process for 1 second before going complete. I checked the client_state.xml per another post but there is no stderr item. Online, it shows all these tasks to have a status of "Error while computing". For apps, I'm running whatever the Lunatics Win32v0.37_AP505r409_AKv8b_Cudax32f installer installed.

Any idea why this suddenly started happening? I haven't updated Boinc or the SETI apps in a while, or the Nvidia drivers either.

Thanks!

I have just joined the GPU capable ranks, and have been fighting this exact symptom, but is the cause the same?

In my case, if a GPU unit is running, and I switch users or login as another user, the GPU begins to trash wu's, each in 1 second, until I log back in as the original user who is running boinc.

seems like the gpu app cannot run under anyone but the boinc-hosting user. And it is said by others, that this occurs using lunatics, which I was.

I am currently experimenting with using the stock apps instead, or maybe a combo. Look for a thread in number crunching about "incorporate cuda".

Restart you computer exit Boinc, get a program to monitor or override fan settings, set the fans to max, restart Boinc. Usually I get this problem this time of year when I am not running the air conditioning, both cards and Cpu getting to hot most of the time in my experience. But thats just me, hope this helps.

Anything pushing 80-85 degrees C, starts cutting it close to getting errors.

Dave, Don't know if you ever got this resolved. You can't use Windows' "switch users" function while running GPU tasks - at least not with older BOINC versions running under XP or Win 7, probably with the others. Mikey at Einstein told me that's because Windows takes away the graphic drivers when you switch users. The GPU task running will fail, then each task in the cache will fail in 1 or 2 seconds because it can't find the GPU. Fix is to suspend GPU processing before switching users. That's done on the activity menu or with the icon on your taskbar. Another option is to never use "switch users", but log off instead. That will also shut down CPU tasks, of course, but I have my grandson do that since he's more likely to remember this.

I did a wich list item at BOINC's site in Feb asking that BOINC suspend the GPU when it detects you're switching users. It's a known problem - in fact, they thought it was fixed in the then-current development version. Ageless, who runs that forum, ran a test with the development mgr and their fix didn't work. I don't know if it's fixed in latest release (6.12.26). It may be - but I no longer have that version for testing.
