I grew up in the Oakland hills and my dad used to feed a raccoon who frequented our backyard. The raccoon's name was Bandit. Every evening my dad would put a pie plate full of table scraps out for Bandit. I would stand with my nose pressed to the sliding glass door of our family room with my brother John, my sister Andrea and my baby brother Mark. We would all watch Bandit enjoy his dinner. Bandit was quite tame, but my dad still never allowed any of us kids outside in the backyard when it was Bandit's dinner time. Looking back, Bandit probably was a male, as there were never any babies. Bandit came nightly for a few years, then we never saw him again. There never was a raccoon replacement when he, presumably, passed away so I guess he was just a lone male. Raccoon feeding... nature or nurture? ID: 1106284 ·

CBC in February (repeated in April, when I saw it) aired a documentary called "Raccoon Nation" based on the York U research.
