I am indeed most indebted for the Chairs indulgence in this matter, and ackknowlege with due deference, our esteemed colleagues reply. May I take leave to commend her statement to the House.

I am not certain, but I think my wildlife webcam caught a beaver last night. It looks sort of like a raccoon, but it seems to have a flat tail. I didn't know there were any beavers within a mile of here. Here is the clip.

Angela, you have been with raccoons longer than I have been with snakes. I didn't start until I was 8. That was an excellent video!

While of course that is not the real me in that video, growing up I did have raccoon encounters. I grew up in the Oakland hills and my dad used to feed a raccoon who frequented our backyard. The raccoon's name was Bandit. Every evening my dad would put a pie plate full of table scraps out for Bandit. I would stand with my nose pressed to the sliding glass door of our family room with my brother John, my sister Andrea and my baby brother Mark. We would all watch Bandit enjoy his dinner. Bandit was quite tame, but my dad still never allowed any of us kids outside in the backyard when it was Bandit's dinner time. Looking back, Bandit probably was a male, as there were never any babies. Bandit came nightly for a few years, then we never saw him again. There never was a raccoon replacement when he, presumably, passed away so I guess he was just a lone male.

Raccoon feeding... nature or nurture?

Hi Angela
<sorry to jump into the conversation>
Thought you might be interested in this - if you haven't seen it already: research at York University on the territories and movement of raccoons in Toronto.
CBC in February (repeated in April, when I saw it) aired a documentary called "Raccoon Nation" based on the York U research. The 45 minute doc is here (after 15 seconds of ads):
CBC Raccoon Nation
It is a fascinating piece!

A written summary of the documentary, with the names and links to the researchers is here:
