I recently found that I could not download any workunits. I would get something like this:
Thu Feb 17 19:49:51 2011	SETI@home	Backing off 1 hr 26 min 8 sec on download of 01au10ac.8253.15368.13.10.4

Thu Feb 17 20:03:58 2011	SETI@home	Backing off 3 hr 31 min 35 sec on download of setiathome_6.03_i686-apple-darwin

These were what I was trying to download, but to no avail.

The project was down for a week, then up for about 2 days, then down for 5. The servers are being pounded right now due to everyone trying to grab new work, which means the server is not optimally responding to all requests for work and some connections get dropped and put into back-off.

It'll probably take at least another day before the backlog of requests get filled and downloads start working normally again.
