Message 1077676 - Posted: 15 Feb 2011, 23:50:09 UTC

The weekly outage went by super fast this morning. Most of the time is spent waiting for mysql to compress all its tables. But if we've been silent most of the week, there isn't much to compress.

Nevertheless it still took some extra time to come back online as we had to confirm everything transferred from gowron to thumper before letting the floodgates open. And here we are, back in business. Thumper is nicely handling the workunit storage traffic while we reconfigure gowron, a process which seems to be going along smoothly.

And best of all, it's good to hear Matt sounding relaxed, happy, and sane - after all the hair-tearing of recent weeks.

No-one will begrudge it if you help yourselves to a beer or several out of the recent donations kitty. Sounds like the tide might be turning at last.

It's not ET! It's the V's and they don't want to be found. lol

Matt,

Thanks for getting things going again, I hope that things go well for you, and the team. NOW, go out and get yourself a nice cold drink. Or a hot one, if that is what you are into.

I am wondering if it is me, or if Seti is still down for all intents. I've been trying to d/l some W/U's for over 24 hours now, but I keep getting the message back that the hostname can't be resolved.
If it's seti, I'll just put Boink to sleep again for another 24, but if it's me, do I need to do something to get it working again?

In general, everybody is having download problems, because of the sheer congestion and volume of traffic after the week-long outage.

But in the specific case of "can't resolve hostname", there's some additional problem at your end. Try shutting BOINC down completely (the whole program, not just the Manager) and restarting it - or simply restarting your computer, if that's easier.

If that doesn't cure it, please come across to either Number crunching or Questions and Answers and post again, with a bit more detail about what you're seeing. It's not really appropriate to tackle specific user problems in a News thread.

In general, everybody is having download problems, because of the sheer congestion and volume of traffic after the week-long outage.

I don't know what exact time everything came back online, but I see that my computer downloaded 23 new WUs all at the same time, so there can't have been too much of a pipeline overload. I may be wrong, but 23 seems a bit excessive for a 6 day cache setting.

I hope it finishes its 3 remaining Einsteins before they time out.

Great to have you back - now I'm flooded with work, more than I have ever seen before.

Evil suspicion ;)

Are you planning a 20-day outage?!
