Americans Flock to Canada's Immigration Web Site

No matter what people might think about that it is not a good news.
Some will consider those as loosers who just can't accept election
defeat. But it's much more than that, much much more profound.

The correct method is "to meet and listen" to local people. Let them ask the questions. IMHO

I spent serveral years living as an expat outside the USA. Europe, Middle East, and Africa. I have a different prospective and I guess by American standards that makes me an outsider. While living overseas, I avoided other Americans like the plague.

A real example: I was with 3 Dutch friends in London. We were queded up to see the crown jewels at the Tower of London. The line went back and forth around all these display cases, before you went into the main vault. Behind us was a group of American tourists, and from their accents I could tell they were from New York City. This one woman in the group piped up, speaking loudly with her nasal Brooklyn honk, "Oh George, George, I bet these are all fakes. They probably keep the real ones locked up somewhere else." At the time we were passing all the medals and vestiments of the various orders of British knighthood. I wanted to find a whole in the floor in which to hide. After that, I spoke to my Dutch friends in my horrible Dutch just so that group of Americans won't recognize me as another fellow Yank. Then there's the way American sailors behave where they are in a foreign port. They treat the locals with contempt, and act as if the entire place is their private whorehouse. I could go on and on, but I'm probably boring ya'll.

So, your holier-than-thou attitude tells me, what? That you are exactly the kind of arrogant American that you so quickly despise. You are what you are, and from your posts here, it would seem that the overseas Americans would more likely have avoided you like the plague. And what kind of rubbish is "The correct method is 'to meet and listen' to local people"? Now you are brow-beating me with semantics? What's next, spelling and grammar? The original comment was that Americans had to get out of their country and see what the world is like, and that, in my case, is demonstrably not the case. Do you know what I did?

You're not boring me for sure. I found your crown jewels was quite funny.
I have soooo many stories like that to tell from my 10 years on cruise
ships. At every captain's dinner I have to host a table with some pasengers.
Once I had some americans at my table, at the end of the Dinner I said good
night I was going to bed because we were suppose to arrive at our destination
very early in the morning and that I had yo be at the bridge. One lady
looked at me really surprised and asked, The crew sleep on board ???
At first I wasn't sure if she was jocking so I didn't know how to react.
It ended in my cabin for a digestive to prove to her and her husband that
I was sleeping on board. She has been very impressed to see that I had a bigger
cabin then they had, and asked me how much they were taking from my salary
to sleep in such a nice cabin...

I have cruised with groups of passengers from all over the world. We had
chartered cruise with British, German, American, French, Canadian, etc.
What I am going to say would be confirmed by anyone who works with american
cruisers, they are by far, the most arrogant, uneducated and badly dressed
you can find on a cruise ship. The more polites are the british, the one
with the best education (name and history of the place we were visiting)
were the French, and the best dressed and beautiful woman were from Spain.
With the spanish it's like captain's night every night. With european
passengers, when I walk on the ship it's alaways good mornig or sir, could
you please tell me what is the name of the island we've just passed, with
american it's more like HI what is the....No thank you, no respect for the
grade of the officer, etc. They paid they're cruise, you belong to them.

I don't know about how american sailors acts when they go ashore, but I know
how american tourrists do, but I guess I will stop here...

EDIT // The best cruise I had was with american though. It was a Gay
chartered cruise. God I never had so much fun. Everybody dressed like
village people partying on the pool deck until, well I think It actually
never end. All the girls (crew) on board were very excited because many
of them were really good looking man, So after the party since we were
all drunk, and since nothing was to expect from those man...Hetero party
was often countinuing in my cabin, I'll leave the details.

French Troops Battle Ivory Coast Forces

"France hit back, destroying what it said was the entire Ivory Coast air force — two Russian-made Sukhoi jets used in the bombing and five helicopter gunships"

Poor Laurent Gbagbo, he won't be using his two jets and five chopers anymore.

Relax, take deep breaths, clear your mind of everything, breath slowly..."Holier than thou" is exactly what you sound like, sorry.

Let me get this out in the open right now...NO OIL from Iraq comes to the US!!!! NO OIL from Kuwait comes to the US!!!! It ALL goes to Europe!!! That's RIGHT, EUROPE!!! I KNOW you won't belive it, so go check out the web pages, do your own research so you can't blame me for the results, and you will see IT IS TRUE!!!
The US is NOT fighting for the OIL!!!
99% of the oil that comes to the US is from South America or the North Sea or the Gulf of Mexico or along both coasts.

Heu ?

So because your SUV is not running on Irak oil it means that Bush
friends are not making profits out of it ? lol Wake up man !!!
Being there because of the oil does not mean for the "oil" itself,
but money you make out of it. Not only that but a better control
over world stock and prices of gas. Now explain to me why the prices
of gas have increased in the US even if it is not comming from Irak ?
I am sorry to say that but you sound a little bit naive to me. May I
suggest that you make some research on the subject.

Anyway if it wasn't for oil tell me why the first thing US troops
have protected after invasion of Irak was the pipe lines ? to protect
the environment just in case sadam put them on fire ? hahaha It would
be very paradoxal, I'd say start by respecting world environment treaty
and then we might buy that reason.

Actually What a great business oportunity it would have been. Remember
all the oil fire during the first Irak war ? Do you know how much money
american contractors made out of this ? I guess it made some happy...

American guy who lives here told me last night he's leaving for Iraq next month.
$1950 a week- year long contract living in some greenzone no taxes no expenses.
He's a plumber building some prisons there, I guess they figure they'll need alot.
Haliburton's paying pretty good. I told him not to ride in the lead Humvee heading for the job- and to keep close tabs on his head...cc

Better if they provided housing at the prison. Ever hear of insurgents breaking INTO a prison?

You'd have to give me more than that to go work over there.
I know it's good money, It's actually just a bit more then
what I have for a sea contract, but just a "little" more
risky...I would never do it.
