Ive been following this to see how its going. There are good points on both sides. But I do believe in the mantra, If it aint broke dont fix it. Perhaps an OP who doesn't care about drift ought to periodically change the thread title to match whatever is actually being discussed. Or maybe it's best to originate threads with very general topics so almost anything fits. For those of us who read everything posted here, drift is just that; gradual changes. For someone who tries to keep up by visiting once a week or so and sampling what seems pertinent, it must be difficult. Joe

[ADDED I was late and I missed some posts............. Hi, community, took me an hour, to read this thread, interresting though. Don't think it's handy to split, Number Crunching into 4 sub-parts. Ofcoarse, you can do a search, if you want something specific. And ofcoarse flaming, sometimes I can be a little loud, but not insulting. And 'it' should not happen. Disagreing, is something else, ofcoarse, but sometimes ends in flaming and that shouldn't happen. Were all 'grown up' so lets act that way :) I think Number Crunching does well, Questions and Answers also has it's use, although far less used as N.C. BOINC-wide, the SETI FOUMs are the most, readed and writed.(IMO);-) And I totally forgot, the very usefull information, messages, links to other related sites. Especially the LUNATICs have an art about optimizing CPU and the developing in CUDA/CAL/OpenCL app.'s But most updated info is also on N.C. forum. ____________ Knight Who Says Ni N!, OUT numbered.................

I try to read this board every day if time permits but don't post much because there are many more knowledgeable people here then myself. Needless to say, I have gained much useful information here as a result of some discussions possibly getting side-tracked. Typically it appears most discussions stay on point and the main issues are addressed. As for the few discussion that may spin out of control at times: wouldn't it be unfortunate to negate all quasi-relevant (and interesting) discussions for the sake of strictness? Maybe the degree by which some appreciate (or disapprove) of this flexibility varies more greatly than expected. If it turns out a stricter technical area is started, I'll just try to keep up with both then. In any event, thanks to all for the good information and advice posted here.

I sagree with this petition. I can agree to some discussions getting sidetracked (and sometimes by quite a bit) the main topic of any given thread is usually followed and the relevant discussion can be found to be quite enlightening. Sometimes it is even possible that you learn tidbits of information here and there when the discussions get sidetracked.
