Had a thought about a donation drive for the benefit of Seti@Home. I know allot of you are american football fans and Super Bowl fever has hit my home state of Wisconsin.

There are all kinds of office and bar pools that you can join in on and most of the time you are just donating money to your friends or to the bookmakers in Las Vegas.

My suggestion would be to pick your favorite team (Packer's for me - go figure) and donate a dollar for every point your team scores. And if your team wins to double that amount to $2 a point - and should the game go into overtime and your team wins make it $2.50 a point or if they loose $1.25 a point.

I think this would be fun and generate a bit of excitement around the game and the donations all go to a good cause :)

If your with me in this drive drop a note with your favorite team in this post. And if you want have a bit of fun with it you can post your score prediction.

Shouldn't the losers be paying more? ;) Sounds interesting and I would participate, but I don't follow pro football and money is tight. Cool idea though.

How about a block pool, $10 a square, winners for each quarter split $500, Seti gets the other $500. $50 for 1st & 3rd quarters, $100 for halftime, and $300 for final.

Would this be legal as a non-profit fundraiser?

I don't think that would fly as it is borderline gambling. The logistics would be challenging to get around. I was just thinking of a donation like those kids and adults that come to your door and say - I think I'm going to be able to run 2 miles in the March of Dimes run - will you donate $3 for each one? Of course they come back and tell you that they ran 12 miles.

Just something simple, easy to figure out for the donor and an immediate star to your account. And did I mention its tax deductable.

Good idea Todd! I will take Pittsburg (just to be different). $1 a point sounds good to me, double if they win. Good luck and see you after the game, same place with a post of my donation.

Only two people have signed up for this - doesn't anyone here watch football?

I would tend to think a large portion of computery/nerdy people are not into watching sports. I'm just guessing based on people I know and only a small portion of the people we have in engineering ever talk about sporting things. I think this is a neat idea though!

Outstanding! I think it was pretty easy to tell your team of choice klc53!
I'm from Wisconsin and a Packer fan for life so that is the route I have to take.
Anyone interested please post here so we can keep track of those involved.

You must also take into account that the people interested in American Football would be, for the most part, citizens of the U.S.A. Still, it is a good idea.

Last time I watched a SuperBowl, they broke away in the last couple of minutes for the movie "Heidi"

Yes, Miss Spirit, it is football.
The Pittsburgh Steelers vs. The Green Bay Packers.
