Lately I have been getting 20-25 work units at a time. My computer processes some of them, but never all of them. Sooner or later they appear to time out and drop out... then normal numbers for a day or two then a huge upload of work units again. While I leave my computer on 24 hours a day, and have been doing units for a long time... it has its limits as an Intel core2 processor (2.4 Ghz w/Quad core technology and 8MB cache. |

This is a known bug for which a fix may have just been developed. No, the fix is not ready for release yet. BOINC WIKI |

I was getting no units now I'm getting too many. Also, why can't I post in any other forum except the Questions and Answers section. It says I can't create a new thread when all I want to do is reply. |

your RAC is less than 1. If you were getting to many WU's you wouldn't have this problem In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

According to your account, your RAC is zero for all your projects, which makes me think you probably created a second account by accident and all the credit is going into that one. |

And that REASON is because I was getting NO work for a long time... No its not a second account and I have a whole page full of work units. How do I post a photo of my screen? |

You have to use a image hosting provider and upload you picture there. Then you can link your image using the [img] tags here. At any rate, if you haven't created a second account and all your work is going to this one, then Skildude is correct: the reason why you can't post is because you need a RAC greater than 1 before you can post in any other forum. If you have a large cache and/or are using a CUDA-capable nVidia GPGPU, then that would likely explain the reason for such a large number of workunits being sent to your account. If you un-hide your computers in your account, we could see how many workunits you have and what type of machines you have without the need to post screen shots. |

I have 28 currently. I selected "won't get new tasks" till I get caught up. I've been using this for quite a while. And I will never have your RAC amount. Do you have more than one computer working or a Telsa? I have a used Tesla but it would never work correctly so its sitting in a drawer some place. : / Computer is unhidden now. It shows 2 but I have no idea why. It's the same computer. I tried to combine but it says its not compatible. |

The two computers have to not overlap in time of returns, and either have the same name, or the same CPU and OS. The code that checks is very picky about the OS names and CPU names and even minor differences will cause a mis-match. BOINC WIKI |

Make sure to save the changes to the projects preferences page with the Update preferences button at the bottom of that page. Just changing "Should SETI@home show your computers on its web site?" from no to yes and then leaving this page will not change the setting. |

Ok, you have a Core 2 Quad with an nVidia GeForce GT 220 (probably with 1GB of RAM), unless that's the card you couldn't get working right. The nVidia GeForce GT 220 is CUDA-compatible so that means your computer is going to plow right through workunits. You should easily see a RAC of 2000+ assuming you aren't having any other problems. That would explain the large number of downloaded workunits. [Edit] Oh, and I have multiple computers on my account, but no nVidia cards. I'm not a big nVidia fan; I use primarily ATi video cards. I'm certain that your RAC will probably rival or easily beat mine. |

I've never seen it plow through work units. The reason I got the graphics card and the cpu was for it to run these units faster but I don't see it happening it only does 4 units and +1 for the Cuda. So only 5 at a time. I think it has 48 stream processors so I thought it would do 48 work units at one time. I've updated the graphic card to the latest drivers. I'm running Vista on this machine but I did have it in another computer with Windows 7 and it still didn't work. Along with an older model Telsa with 192 cores it only ran 3 units. 2 using the processor and 1 using 1 cuda. : / |

I think I got it to finally work. I changed the Bonic to a older version and now even though its only doing 1 unit at a time its doing it quickly. :) |

I think it has 48 stream processors so I thought it would do 48 work units at one time. The CUDA app is parallelized so it uses all 48 processors at once on the workunit, and it should be much faster than a CPU. Along with an older model Telsa with 192 cores it only ran 3 units. 2 using the processor and 1 using 1 cuda. : / That would be a settings problem. BOINC should always run 1 workunit for each core/CPU with 1 core/CPU feeding the GPU. So on your Core 2 Quad you should be running 4 at minimum. I changed the Bonic to a older version and now even though its only doing 1 unit at a time its doing it quickly. Since the CPU app isn't parallelized, I can assure you that your other three cores are sitting idle while only the one works on that workunit, thus not giving your full throughput/performance. I think you might have made it worse! :) And you ended up aborting all your work in the process. |

Yeah I hate to use that abort but I didn't want to waste work that I wasn't able to process. Maybe my Telsa was working all along because I was expecting it to be working like a multiprocessor does. : / that was the only way it seemed to me that people were returning large amounts of RAC using a 1 computer. |

More than likely they were overclocking both the CPU and their GPU as well as using some optimized applications. The number one way to increase your throughput on this project is to use the Lunatic's optimized apps. The good news is you now have a RAC of 9 so you should be able to post in any other forum. |

Yeah I seen the RAC of 9. It's going a lot faster now. 1hr 11 minutes per work unit. A lot faster than it does using the CPU. Wonder why a older version of Bonic was the solution. Looks like a newer version should work better. |

I think you may misunderstand that the time reported is simply the amount of CPU time the CPU was used to feed the GPU. It's not actual GPU time reported in older versions. As far as I know, it's still the CPU time reported and not the GPU time, but I don't know for sure since I don't use my GPUs to crunch. |
