Is it too much to ask for both major parties to actually work together, to find common ground, to both work fo the benefit for ALL the people? Yes it is. They have far too much invested in extremist positions to ever let go of their smug false pride. |

How do you think any of that can be accomplished WITHOUT working together? Janice |

Common ground means we move further to the left. That's bad. Best course at this point: House blocks all further spending and attaches big concessions to the March/April raising of the debt ceiling limit. We're bankrupt. You'll be dragged to common ground kicking and screaming, either by legislation OR by runs on the banks / default on the dollar / hyperinflation. |

so you're saying that by finding common ground instead of insisting on finding differences in moving to the left? sheesh Its a wonder anything gets done with an attitude like that. Well, that is the position of the Tea Party advocates isn't it. To them, common ground is eliminating the 'left'. Common ground means we move further to the left. That's bad. |

Well, that is the position of the Tea Party advocates isn't it. To them, common ground is eliminating the 'left'. They have staked out positions that don't have common ground. One, Society is responsible for each individual. Two, Each individual is responsible for themselves. There is no middle. |

so you're saying that by finding common ground instead of insisting on finding differences in moving to the left? I'm trying to decipher that sentence. It's incomplete and makes no sense. What are you trying to convey? |

so you're saying that by finding common ground instead of insisting on finding differences in moving to the left? I think he already answered that. " sheesh Its a wonder anything gets done with an attitude like that. Oh wait thats right nothing does get done anymore " Janice |

Common ground means we move further to the left. Well it would be hard for them to move any further to the right. That's bad. Sky is falling? Reality Internet Personality |

Of course. Try to get everyone to "fear" not doing it their way. Then threaten the rest. Doom! Gloom! Hellfire! Brimstone! Janice |

My one and only statement on this subject will be to refer to one of the most literate men in history.... Mark Twain. "No matter how healthy a man's morals may be when he enters the White House, he comes out again with a pot-marked soul." - quoted in My Father Mark Twain, Clara Clemens "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." I'm halfway through the 700 page biography of Mark Twain by Ron Powers. Amazing how a sickly, little boy from a very small town became so literate and Famous. And if you would ask Sammy, 'Is it too much to ask', oh boy, would he have an answer for you. If he answered it at all. Maybe by the time Halley's Comet has come around another 10 times, people will have learned to do what is right and best. Do not count on it. Ain't happening now and won't happen in The Future. Unless the future is run totally by Corportations. iWorm 'em. |

It was wonderful, sitting in the shadow of Clemens'/Twain's Octagonal Study so many times over 3 years, overlooking the pond. Just down the avenue was the plaza where once stood the mansion of the family of Clemens' wife. Last name Langdon, I believe. |

It seems to me that he wrote about this so many years ago...... . . . here I was, in a country where a right to say how the country should be governed was restricted to six persons in each thousand of its population. . . I was become a stockholder in a corporation where nine hundred and ninety-four of the members furnished all the money and did all the work, and the other six elected themselves a permanent board of direction and took all the dividends. It seemed to me that what the nine hundred and ninety-four dupes needed was a new deal. - A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I'm halfway through the 700 page biography of Mark Twain by Ron Powers. perhaps had he been healthy he wouldn't have been so well read and well versed. Perhaps he would have just been and average working class guy In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
