http://www.politicsdaily.com/2011/01/20/poll-voters-want-congress-to-focus-on-jobs-before-health-care/?ncid=webmail

George H.W. Bush was riding high with Operation: Desert Storm. Not long after, though, in the midst of a recession, cries of "It's the economy stupid" boomed across the USA. He lost his bid for re-election.

But what was the first (or one of the very first, and big) thing(s) William Jefferson Clinton did? No, it wasn't their failed attempt at health care reform, led by Hilary.
No, it was passing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
That was not why most people elected him.

Barack H. Obama was probably also largely elected due to a repeat of "It's the economy, stupid!"
Though he tries, rightly or wrongly, to tie much of what he's been doing to the economy, many don't perceive it as connected, or making things worse.

But what do we have now?
A symbolism over substance vote by the G.O.P. in The House, to repeal the health care reform.
And guess what, it's having repercussions faster than someone can say "Gesundheit!" after another sneezes.

http://www.politicsdaily.com/2011/01/20/poll-voters-want-congress-to-focus-on-jobs-before-health-care/?ncid=webmail

That's right: the G.O.P. is going to hear "It's the economy/unemployment, stupid!" all over again. Politicians on both sides lose the benefit of the doubt very quickly when they ignore the reasons people voted for them. First acts should not be about ideologies and social engineering.

I made this point on another thread. It's pretty clear that the only people that are concerned with repealing the health care reform are the republicans that took over the house. Even the Insurance industry is meeting now to see how they can make as much money with the reform as possible. Seems the people most affected by the reform are working to benefit from it. it's pretty clear that the congressmen that voted for eliminating the reform are once again not looking beyond the end of their own noses

I disagree.

The vote was to stop bad financial policy that Obamacare is, as the video shows.
The economy is bad because of policies and government spending we can't afford, like Obamacare.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jp8gF7inYaM

Obamacare is social engineering, that's why we need to kill it.

Well I guess we could drop reams of federal government regulation, policy and bureaucratic paperwork on enemies.

Come to think of it, that would make anyone surrender and it would keep http://gpo.gov silly servants busy too!

We could eliminate most of it if we could get businesses to follow one rule.

"Do what is right. Do not hurt anybody or anything in the process".

Change fines and regulations into hard jail time for offenders.

edited adding in "do what is right"

By that measure, most of Washington DC would be in jail.

I agree. Problem is, you keep wanting that with OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY, not your own.

Democrats love to raise taxes to "help" everyone....because they never pay taxes themselves.

Or we could eliminate federal regulations on savings and loans... no wait thats been done and it didn't turn out well

we should eliminate regulations on commodities trading then... wait thats what caused Crude oil prices to hit $140 a barrel

Perhaps we should eliminate the regulations on stocks and bond trading whats the worst that could happen...Oh wait the Great depression and the W recession.

Nope sorry business regulations are there for a reason. People and through them Businesses are greedy and will do anything to cut corners and make more money than their neighbors. Sorry again. Regulations= good
Deregulation until proven otherwise = bad

There is sharing, charity, voluntary, and there are taxes, Robbing Hood, at gun point.

Or put it this way, I figure out my taxes and I can either send that to the IRS or send it to charities of my choice. Are you happy with that?

Hey, then all the D's can send their $ to the welfare mama charity and the R's can send all their money to the MIC charity. Everyone would know their money went where they wanted and "can we all get along?" - Rodney King

It would be real democracy, each get his vote with where he sends his check.

Wish there was a way to figure out of the 47% who don't pay any Federal Income Tax, which political party they belong to.

shall we stop maintaining bridges and highways, stop emergency services police/fire/ambulance, stop maintaining dams, stop irrigation projects, stop emergency shelters, stop any and all government services?

If not, then we need a functioning government. One democratically elected. One that does more than say "no".

Fine. Maintain the local bridges and highways with the 14 workers and 2 admins needed to get the job done. Not with the 14 workers and 75 admins and paper pushers.

And another question pops into my pea-sized, but malevolent brain.

What is the purpose of public unions?

Do we need government workers unionized under AFSCME and the SEIU against the government, against the people?

Seriously, do workers need protection from the government itself? I mean WTF? These are civil servants.

What does that say about government regulation? Workers need protection from the regulation mechanism that they write themselves?

Even FDR didn't like that and said it was a bad idea. Kalifornia is broke over public unions. Is this rocket science or something?

Unions are the collective strength of numbers. One person asks (and usually needs) more, it is hat in hand oliver twist asking for gruel. Everyone joins hands walks in together it is let us work to a reasonable agreement, or we all lose.

They are no more nor less corrupt by nature than any other group of people. Like them or not, they have caused the end of child labor, laws regarding equal pay for equal work, 40 hour (compared to 72) work weeks..

They have their place.
