The way I hide BIONC on Vista is below. But again, it is who you are trying to hide it from?.{my solution no doute many more??

Close BONIC which reduces it to taskbar.

Left click task bar click on properties.

Notification Area click Customise.

Click on BIONC dropdown menu click hide.

Return to task bar.

Unless the open hidden task bar is opened. No visual signs of BIONC running except in task manager.

SETI is only visible in task manager (and BOINC manager).

So, you'll only have to quit BOINC manager without stopping the science application(s) (exit dialog).

But anyone checking the machine with a microgram of sense or intelligence would question a) what the 'rogue' process(es) was/were & b) why the machine is at 100%. 100& may also bring extra noise/heat.

There should never be a reason to hide it. Think again.

Read our rules and policies
Run SETI@home only on authorized computers
Run SETI@home only on computers that you own, or for which you have obtained the owner's permission. Some companies and schools have policies that prohibit using their computers for projects such as SETI@home.

Install it as a service then delete the icons from the all users start menu. I do this on a older version of boinc.

Task manager will not show all processes for regular user, but regular user can still see (at least with default config) 100% busy CPU. Usual PC will not have 100% CPU usage constantly. So this could rise some user questions anyway.

But, why you should do this?

If you think about to install BOINC/S@h on your PC/s at work, maybe one feet is already 'terminated'..

You must ask your company/chief first.

Make a forum or Google search with 'NEZ'. ;-)

Never say never: unobtrusive ≠ clandestine. Suppose you had a non-technical friend or co-worker who says “I’ll let you install SETI on my computer, but only if I can’t even tell it’s there.”

Well, He'd better be the owner of the company then. I was going to be a wise guy when this was first posted and say, Nez must have got a new job. But Me thinks that something smells about this question. Installed on a bunch of relatives computers perhaps?

It could be family computers where he doesn't want the kids to see it and start messing around with it.

Thats what I thought. Running SETI in secret. NOT COOL AT ALL. Ever try and ask them if you could run it? Im betting some said no.

So you would hijack thier computers, use the electricty they pay for. Possibly shorten the life of said computer or componets, All for a few credits? E-mail Nez and ask him how that turned out.

Hmm if that is how you treat your family and friends, I would hate to think how you treat your enemies.

Why are you all assuming he wants to do this on the sly?
Maybe he just wants to fix it so the kids don't disable it while playing pacman.

Yep its already been stated you are not allowed to install the software on computers that you don't own or have the owners permission to use. By placing BOINC on a computer then hiding it so they won't uninstall means you either are trying to get around them knowing about it or you suspect they are incompetent enough to dump your BOINC work. I'm betting you are doing something your shouldn't and perhaps this thread should be locked down

My grandkids play all sorts of crap while I run boinc. Never hurt anything yet.

Well, only he knows his reasons and motives, but I could see somebody with limited computer skills accidentally clicking on something in Boinc whilst poking around and not knowing how to set it right again.

That's all I was getting at. I certainly would not condone installing it on anybody else's computer without permission and 'hiding' it just so they didn't know it was there. I was just leaving open the possibility that there might be a valid reason for wanting to have Boinc inaccessible, especially on a computer you don't have access to all the time and is used by others.

I would agree Mark if it was his computers. By his admission they are not.
