After installing the latest round of updates to Windows 7 (64-bit) the seti@home screen saver seizes the desktop when it's been active after I leave my computer then move the mouse. What should happen is when I move my mouse the seti@home screensave should disappear and my desktop replace it, but it does not. The seti@home graphic remains, but shows no animation. The only key that works is the Windows key on the keyboard. I cannot stop programs such as Outlook 2007 from the taskbar. I cannot even do Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Some computers have this problem. Since BOINC can do computation without the screen saver, the suggestion is to use the blank or default screen saver instead.

Make sure that boinctray.exe is running. This is the idle detection program, which checks for mouse movements and keyboard taps. Without it, parts of BOINC may not be detecting the idle time/no idle time correctly, on Windows Vista and Windows 7, due to these operating systems' changed security policy compared to earlier Windows versions.

Boinctray.exe runs only from the registry (at Winodws start-up). It does not start at BOINC start-up.

When I click Processes in Windows Task Manager I see boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe, boinctray.exe, and astropulse_5.05_windows_intelx86.exe *32. In the UAC Virtualization column I see Disabled for the 3 boinc items. Astropulse is Enabled. Setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe *32 is also listed. It is marked Enabled. Climateprediction is listed as famous_6.11_windows_intelx86.exe *32 and famous_um_6.11_windows_intelx86.exe * 32. You might want to change these names to something meaninful like climateprediction. The two climateprediction items are marked Disabled. I hope this information is useful. I have had the problem as I originally described with the seti screensaver for quite some time. It became more pronounced with the latest round of Microsoft updates. So is the solution to turn off the screen save as suggested or is there resources available to solve this problem?
