Why project uses a Gaussian distribution? Maybe it is not Gaussian ... Maybe it's the distribution of Rice or another? If this is not gaussian distribution turns out that we never hear those weak signals. How long the project would not exist. Why Gaussian? I think you understand me:) Thank you for your reply:) |

But I can not understand the project since 1999 and has not been any sign of weak signals from our alien friends? :) |

There are billions of "signals" found: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sci_status.html but they have to be checked against each other for Persistency: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ntpckr_faq.php http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ntpckr.php http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_forum.php?id=830 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=60113 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Q: How are candidates ranked? This means that the lower the rating(credits) for the task the better signal and credits is my current rank(111)? Something I do not understand please explain to me. Sorry for the stupid question but I am a new member in this project and not all understand :) |

credits are given for FLOps done. Not but the amount of signals seen in any given WU. Credits vary mainly due to the angle range(if and how fast the radar is moving) Very Low Angle Range(VLAR) WU's are given more credit because they are looking at a lot of data from a smaller portion of space. These WU's can be slow to process and shouldnt be confused with Astropulse(AP) WU's which can take more than a day to process. Very High Angle Range(VHAR) WU's are from a fast moving scan and have less data to calculate. These WU's are short, usually less than an hour. VHAR WU's dont garner much credit either. Though in the end you'll pretty much get the same amount of credit for hours worked regardless of which type of WU you get In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Q: How are candidates ranked? The "score" of a candidate is not the same as the "credit" you receive when completing a workunit. So no, a lower credit workunit doesn't mean it is a better candidate for a signal. |

OK but if I had heard these weak signals you tell me about it? How do I know about it? |

Most WU's "hear" something. Those results are added to the database when you report back. If they fit the definition that have been set for S@H then they will be charted and if that signal repeats then its will eventually be looked at closer. However S@h gets millions of results that it must weed through using the NTPKR which is described elsewhere. It's complicated but it works In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

If my computer has only one processor, this means that I can perform only one task? If two, two tasks and so on? |

yes that is correct In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Why so long there is no credit for the task? My time zone is UTC +2 Today, January 13. |

If you clink the link in that row under "Work unit", you'll see that your result has not yet been validated because the other computer (#2808032) that's working on the same WU hasn't yet reported back. The "minimum quorum" of 2 means that at least two results must be available to the validator before credit is granted. That other host has an average turnaround time of 9 days, so it will probably be about a week before anything more happens there. P.S. The corresponding link for the task that’s still in progess, in the row above, shows that someone else is waiting for your host to finish. Hurry up! ;) |
