As a telecommunications engineer I'm interested in signal forms and frequencies that are being scanned by the SETI@home team. These may be silly questions, but I'm new to this, so bear with me ;-). 1) What kind of signal forms is SETI@home searching for? By signal form I mean for example AM, FM, TDMA, CDMA, QAM, OFDM? 2) Why is the frequency range limited to only 1418.75 - 1421.25 MHz? |

As a telecommunications engineer I'm interested in signal forms and frequencies that are being scanned by the SETI@home team. These may be silly questions, but I'm new to this, so bear with me ;-). Multibeam is looking for a CW type signal, which may be pulsed. The frequency chosen is near the hydroxyl resonant frequency. There is another project -- not Seti@Home -- Serendip that also checks the same data on a much larger bandwidth but not as sensitively. Astropulse is looking for pulsed broadband signals, essentially what a pulsar puts out, which at our distance is about what a RADAR would look like. |

And CW stands for? Check out these pages: They are excellent! http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/ Choose "Signal candidates (new)" below Science -http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/candidates.html From there for example "Comprehensive List of promising Gaussian candidates". http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/Candidates/index.html If you don't get it here, you might get it from there. BTW: Wondering a little where mine fits. |

Thank you! Checked it out. Good reading stuff there as well. |
