I was just reading the specs and some benchmarks: The new Intel architecture looks very promising. Question: Are there already Crunchers out there using Sandy Bridge? Once I can get my hands on one of those I have two personal TODOs :) Compile an Astropulse version that - supports AVX. - uses the internal GPU with OpenCL. They aren't released yet. The NDA just lifted today, and the first ones are scheduled for release until the 9th of January. As far as them looking promising ,this article, has some benchmark results. In my opinion it doesn't look like a monumental change in performance, but is better none the less. The i5-750 is within 1,000 to 2,000 points of the i7-2600k(@3.5Ghz). What I will be interested in will be the overclocking potential, especially considering that power consumption has improved a bit on this series. Personally I'm sticking to my original plan to by pass the i7 wave of processors and wait on the stuff coming along in 2012-2014. Well unless this newest waves shows some massive improvement in heat and performance! (Not to mention price) Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

it looks like Intel is still sticking with its pasting of dual cores together. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

... some massive improvement in heat and performance! (Not to mention price) I wouldn't call it "massive" - but quite noticeable. And the price looks more than OK. E.g. $317 for the (current) top model, the Core i7-2600K. Petition against 1366x768 glare displays: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_153240404724993 |

Yeah the price for performance ratio it's standing strong with the power of a 980x but the price of a consumer level chip. Only thing supposedly the 980x beats it at is highly multi-threaded apps, 6 vs 4. It's not a massive enough difference for me to want to buy into it just yet. Once the OC'ing guys get a hold of it and show what it can do it may be worth it then, but I'm guessing there will be some unknown issues coming from the new turbo implementation. Bottom line is if you have a 775 these will be the i7 chips to buy. If you have an i7 machine there is no point in getting excited, that is unless you just like pushing data as much as possible and money isn't a huge limitation. Once the OC'ing guys get a hold of it and show what it can do ... From what I was reading: Core i7-2600K : 5 GHz Core i5-2500K : 4,5 GHz Air cooled!! No WK. Petition against 1366x768 glare displays: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_153240404724993 |

From what I was reading: Yup, but not under full Load. Have you seen a Review with loading the CPU with Prime95 or LinX? Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

Got a board and processor to sample some time ago but because of an NDA I haven't said anything about it and kept it off S@H. Thus far the 2600k that I got looks impressive. Todd |

I found the following numbers for Folding@Home at legitreviews. Check out the new i7 2600K. Running @stock and overclocked @4.9GHz. Petition against 1366x768 glare displays: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_153240404724993 |

Well, 210 Watt Power Draw - not bad for a CPU. LOL Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

Well, 210 Watt Power Draw - not bad for a CPU. LOL 210 Watt when overclocked to 4.9GHz and under full load for the whole system. Read: "For measuring power used we plugged our test system in to a Kill-a-Watt power meter. Aside from the motherboard, CPU, and video card the test system used a single SATA DVD drive, an SSD, and two 120mm fans. ...". So 210 Watt is pretty good. (edit: No, I don't get money from Intel ... but I'm slightly excited *g*) Petition against 1366x768 glare displays: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_153240404724993 |

When i compare the price difference between a 980x and a 1090T. I´m not exited. No offence intended. I´ve seen Phenoms running over 5 GHZ. I want the best for the buck. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Me too. But not on Air Cooling. And not crunching Folding@Home ;)
Me too. But since I have to pay for a processor only once, but for my power bill every month, I think I will update my AMD Phenom II X4 965 in the near future to a Intel 2600K ;) EDIT: Here's an excellent article in computerbase.de for our German speaking friends *g* - for all non-Germans: Just look at the numbers: Performance vs. Power Draw. Intel Core i5-2500K for example is 57% more efficient than AMD 1100T. P.S. No, I am seriously not getting money from Intel :D Petition against 1366x768 glare displays: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_153240404724993 |

lets not forget that AMD has put on the 1100T which is jsut slightly faster than the 1090 In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

look at page 2 of Bents article You can see that there are 4 distinct chips not 1 solid chip. even by your pic it looks like they intentionally separated them. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Yeah I think originally wasn't it something to do with none shared cache and separate memory controllers that made it 'glued' together? This seems to have 4 separate core that share the rest of the die. Who know's for sure never actually took the trouble to find the definition of a "true" quad core considering it was mainly brought up originally as an AMD vs. Intel debate topic.
