I had to redo clocks on one of my 460s(768 MB) with x38g app. Had to increase GPU voltage one step up and lower memory clock from 4050 MHz to 4000 MHz. Card was throttling down to 405 MHz GPU frequency.
But it not bad bcs WUs with very big AR decreased their calculation time with 10-15% and also typical MAR WUs(0.419-0.421) decreased their times from ~10:45 min to bellow 10 mins per WU(1 WU per card), which is again 10+% speed increase. Other AR WUs I guess had decreased their times too, but I haven't observed them more precisely. Anther good thing is CPU time for GPU WUs, it's decreased too. Before it took around 10-11 seconds until completion indicator(percentage) started to raise, now it takes 4-5 seconds(CPU is 2500K@4525 MHz).
Next step is to move to 270+ drivers from 267.24 beta I'm using now. If there is significant gain, I'll repost here.

Newegg has $40 USD rebates available on some eVGA SE 460's and lesser amounts for many other eVGA cards through 6/30. The ones I looked at are the 'crippled' units with only 288 SP's (normally 336).

But, a 460 for 110/120 bucks ain't all bad!

NewEgg has the 1GB Zotac for $119.

Still, that's high compared to the Galaxy deal that put the 768MB version under $100.

Well, here's another 1GB 460 SE (288 cores) for <$100 (after rebate and FREE Shipping).

Newegg has the Galaxy GTX 460 Super OC on sale for 114 bucks after rebate. This is a full blown 460 with 256-bit memory bw, 1GB and 336 processor cores, not an "SE" version.

New Newegg customers can get an additional $10 off. Details at:

time's up...the price is back up to $247 (or $207 after MIR) plus $8 shipping. a deal that good was never bound to last long. plus that particular GTX 460 runs quite hot with respect to the average.

Be advised that the 768MB versions tend to overclock much better than the 1GB versions. Although the 1GB ones do have higher memory throughput, I don't know how much that comes into play with seti.

Most of mine are running 850mhz+, and keeping under 60C just on air, no voltage increase. They are the cheapo Galaxy ones, and they tend to cool much better with a fan pointing at the back of the card.

The new EVGA dual 460 on a card is pretty damn interesting as well.

I have only taken mine up to 810/1620, it is stable at that config.

Mines an EVGA GTX460 Superclocked EE 01G-P3-1373-AR, It already is at 763/1526MHz, A little bit more might not be a problem, I'm still waiting for a quieter case fan though before I switch over. 3700rpm is a bit too loud for My tastes. Oh and the 1373 is able to be water cooled and eventually I'll possibly do that to it and another one.

The default clocks on my EVGA 1GB 460 are 850/1000/1700 (GPU/Memory/Shader). Running the fan @ 60% keeps the temp below 60C as long as I blow the dust-bunnies out every few weeks. Most effective running 3 at a time though there is very little penalty running only 2 (they complete in just over 2/3 the time).

Since You mentioned the memory on Your card, My max MHz for all 3 categories is:

763MHz(Core/Gpu)
1526MHz(Shader)
3800MHz(Memory)

At least according to Newegg, which matches what's online at EVGA. Of course I still need to get RivaTuner 2.24c to work right on the new PC as the way it currently is there are no overclocking controls there, maybe I didn't install it, oopsie.

Just as another couple of data points:

I have a new ASUS GTX 460 1GB card. I'm running at 805/1610/1900 (core/shader/mem). I have experienced the downclocking issue twice, and that is with the new 275.33 drivers. I have gone to software fan control and shifted the curve a bit right so that the fans run faster for a given temp, keeping temps a bit lower (it now maxes at about 65C).

The performance seems good with the new Lunatics 0.38 code--it just completed two shorties (simultaneously) in 3:46. It definitely improved performance on the GTX 260 as well, and I don't think there's a penalty (if not an improvement) for running two at a time on the 1 GB 260.

I will keep watching for the downclock issue--it may be that 805 is too fast or something.

[EDIT]: Just as an off-topic remark, I noticed that SpeedFan 4.44 final is out, and the "advanced speed control" is now working for my system, where before it did not. In case you're not familiar with that, it allows you to set up a temperature curve to control fan speed. I think it's far better than the old method he used, and I'm now using that successfully for 3 different fans (CPU, NB and case).

[EDIT2]: Whose stats are in my sig? LOL!

I recently picked up a EVGA 01G-P3-1372-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked 1GB.

I have found that the most credit per hour of run time results from running GPUGrid. Until it got really hot outside here in the Eastern US, I was only running two to three WUs from GPUGrid each weekend, and my recent overall average credit is over 12,000.

I only run my machines periodically during the week, and the machine with the 460 will run (when it cools down enough again) from about Saturday afternoon until early Monday morning each weekend. That is also the only time that I allow GPUGrid to run. During the periodic runs on weekdays, I run MilkyWay, and that seems to do well on the 460, too.

On one of my other machines that never runs 24/7, I have an 8800 GT which runs S@H and Einstein.

Lately I haven't had much time to use my desktop with the 460 in it. Positive news of this is that seti had been running uninterrupted for about a week! I was above 18,000 RAC on that machine and was still climbing until I found that my computer restarted yesterday due to Windows updates :D

Anyway, this is on the top end of what I predicted my computer could do and so I am extremely satisfied at the amount of work this little 460 can crunch. Overall it's one of the best purchases i've ever made (computer related of course). For $170.00 at the time it was a real bargain. The card runs 99% if 3 shorties are being crunched simultaneously and fluctuates between 93-99% if mid-AR wu's are being run. This is with the most recent lunatics app as I previously mentioned I had loaded that up.

Happy Crunching!

I've been running an ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/768MD5 for 3 months solid 24/7.
My RAC has been around 14k to 15300 . . . until today I was using Lunatics .37...
I just loaded up .38 & I'm interested to see how it works out.

This is on my "HTPC/TV" PC, so it does double duty recording my TV shows and crunching BOINC/Seti.
I don't bother to over-clock but this card already runs at 700MHz/1400MHz.

I keep seeing a Sparkle Refurbished for $100 that looks tempting... I've generally had good luck with refurbs . . . Pre-disastered . . . at least you get some sort of warranty...

Another thing I've been thinking about is one those GTX 465s . . . but that's another story.

Just wanted to let you know what to try if you are experiencing downclocking problems on a high oc'd gtx 460's running x38g/x39e with 275.33 drivers. Might help with other nvidia cards too...

I used to run my 2 msi gtx 460 cards at 850/1900 with 1.05 voltage without any problems. After i upgraded from x32f & 266.58 to x38g & 275.33 i started getting dc's atleast once or twice every day. So after twiddling around with voltages and other stuff i just decided to free 2 threads (one for each card) on my i7 2600k and this seems to have fixed the problem (no idea why) .. been running x39e & 275.33 drivers (850/1900 1.05v) for 5 days now without downclocking :)

Why a 465? They only have 18 more cores, run way hotter, and aren't as overclockable.

Newegg has a EVGA 450 on sale for about 90.00 after rebate...
How is that compared to the 460 card as far as crunching goes ?

Model Number = 01G-P3-1452-TR GEFORCE GTS 450 ( Fermi ) 1Gig , 128 bit GDDR5

Reason I am asking is My ATI 4670 won't run WU's by it's self... something to do with 128 work unit size...
So with My duel core cpu , I am still only able to crunch 2 WU's at a time...
any Cheap suggestions ?

I'm running a little GTS 450 and I'm very happy with it along with my E5400 dual core. If I had the money at the time I probably would have gone with the 460 as it is better overall though. Look into it and if it's not too much more than the 450 go with it but if not then the 450 is a good little cruncher.
