LOL Steve.... I used to run with HT off, before the Great Outage, and I knew it was just an experiment to run with it on. The experiment has officially ended. Glad to see you are starting to see and report back to others what HT is doing for you etc. I know some of the big time Overclockers(IE world record holders) have to turn off HT at insanely high clock speeds to be able to boot their machines. Albeit you aren't in the same class as them with their 8Ghz speeds etc, and LN2 cooling, but you are on that tippy edge. That undefined space where you are getting on the fringe of what the processor is statistically capable of running, and I think you are doing a fine job at it. So keep pushing that rig and keep us informed on what you learn! Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

Even without the overclocking, there seems to be some tuning I can do. @soft^spirit I have seen you are using a little GT430. May i ask how many tasks do you run on this little rascal? :D Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

um.. all of them? Well let me see if I can remember.. I think I was running about 8K(both systems) on the GT220. Opt apps I think took me to 11K.. and right after I installed the 430, the great outtage occured. I am not sure, but it looks like I am turning in near 15K per day now. so 3-4 thousand more rac, and less power usage than the GT220? Oh yeah, the directx 11 looks awesome too! Host RAC is currently 4100 and climbing hard arrording to boinc manager. Still do not know for sure how high it is going. Edit: misread question. 1 on GPU, and just changed from 3 to 4 on CPU Janice |

Thanks. Sorry for my lack of english... So, this little rascal needs then appr. an hour for one GPU and needs 50W? Well, that sound not very good. My GTS450 needs 85Watt and do one WU in 960 Seconds. Maybe i buy another GTS450 insteed of a GT430. ;-) Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

It is crunching 1 at a time.. GPU completion is around.. not sure. 10 minutes, 49 minutes, 1hour 34 minutes,35 minutes, so varies. and 45 watts is the rating I believe. It was about 5 watts less than GT220. If I had bigger than 300 watt PSU, I would have gone GT450+. I have a 450 watt on the shelf, but I was not sure it would bolt into an HP case. Janice |

I don't believe this. My RAC is over 1000 points higher since I left my house 7 hours ago. At this rate it will climb at over 3000 points a day. Now I really want to speed it up! Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. GPUUG Website |

... That's normal. Our all RAC is down after the long Outage. In the first two Weeks after you start Crunching with a Rig the RAC will rise very quickly. But after the third week it will only rise very slowly until you reach your theoreticaly maximum RAC. Another thing - since we all again "on Line" the validation process goes very quickly. Actually all returned results were validated. Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

... When I first fired up these 480's several months ago, it was climbing at about 1000 a day. Since SETI came back up, I have been plagued with crash after crash, until I turned off the HT. Now the GPU's are more heavilly over clocked, and I am seeing the dividends. It may be normal, but it is a shock to me. I can hardly concentrate on my work. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! I saw that you had around 120Mhz on the PCI-e.. That's too much as you noticed and make it prone to hanging, for my own part there was no problem at 115 Mhz but i really think that you could set it at 110Mhz if you want to. Those GPU's must be waiting alot to be fed with data if you occupy the GPU's and bus that much with 3 Wu's / GPU each.. I saw that you had around 120Mhz on the PCI-e.. Hello Vyper! I just got home and kicked the CPU up to 4.34 GHz, with the PCIe bus back to 105. I will see how it stabilizes before going any higher. My CPU RAM speed is just short of 2000 MHz at the moment, and those 480's are churning out a lot of work. I appreciate your input. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Thanks. Sorry for my lack of english... My GTX 460-768 needs 112 watts at idle and 250 watts fully loaded at stock speeds. I am running 2 at a time as well. |

Steve have you noticed any variations in time estimates Boinc is giving you when messing with the PCIe bus speed? Just wondering if that can impact crunching performance any, I wouldn't imagine so but I've never really played with it. Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

Actually I haven't even looked. I tweaked it up to a stable 4.29 GHz with a RAM speed of 1954 MHz. I was so tired, that once I got it stable, I fell asleep on the couch after dinner. I actually wish I was still there.... Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. GPUUG Website |

A few minutes ago I noticed my RAC dropping, and tried to log into my rig remotely. It has been off line for a while, so I can only guess it is locked up, perhaps with a BSOD, or just frozen. I think I need to look into one of those remote power strips that can be recycled remotely, and some way to start the boot process. Does anyone know the setup required, and the potential cost? I use this one: http://www.anel-elektronik.de/english/ The NET-PwrCtrl PRO Version. You can restart your Rig over your mobile Phone/Browser over the Internet - cool. :D Not really cheap. But the cheapest I could find. Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

I use this one: Thank you! That looks promising. I feel so helpless, knowing my rig is frozen, and I won't be able to get to it for several hours. The Log Me In .com is excellent for manipulating it once it is running, but useless for these frozen occasions. I am told that there is a setting in some mother boards that will return the system to it's last state after a power loss. I will look, but I don't remember anything like that in the Rampage 2 Extreme BIOS. In which case I would need to rig a solonoid to trigger the power button on the case. The coolest solution would be something that not only cycles power, but allows me access to the BIOS remotely. I have a feeling that such a system would be very expensive. Ah yes. That Option is under APM Configuration in the BIOS and sounds "Restore on AC Power loss". You have to set it to "Power on" I have activated this or similar Option on every of my Boards. Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |
