The plant dyes yield a much softer result, not as bright as the acid dyes - different, but equally lovely.

I think fabric dyeing will become an important part of my designs as I continue with fashion school.

you get mainly browns, greens and yellows.
explains the price of the few natural red and blue dyes.

up to today black is mainly achieved by using (char)coal.

The purple colour came from using red-purple Prunus leaves.

The grey-black colour (hard to see in the photos) was achieved by wrapping the cloth around rusty railway spikes... the rust and metal reacts in the dyebath, creating extra colours.
