Informix is running on oscar and is now initializing all of its dbspaces. We hope to start moving the science data over in the first part of next week. Last I heard.. it was terabytes. And at least gigabit internally. It's not so much a simple copy and paste like data files on a network, but it's a database operation, so there is CPU time involved and a bit of I/O, so the internal gigabit link probably isn't saturated during the process. ____________ Linux laptop uptime: 1484d 22h 42m Ended due to UPS failure, found 14 hours after the fact

Don't forget they are also checking and doing some repair on the database too. They want everything right when they start up again. My guess is they are doing as much as they can of whatever it was that made them decide to go to the three day outages, cleaning up the databases and whatnot. ____________ PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC

Transfer rate in and out of the SETI labs cannot exceed 100MBPS, less overhead. Transfer within the labs.. Well there are some upgrades coming in. Limits would come down to buss/processing speeds which are being increased. My real question is.. Can Jocelyn keep up? ____________ Janice

Seti Team, this is most excellent news. I choke up a little bit each time I see the "no tasks running" message. Have been running SETI since late 90's, probably will be running into my 90's. Keep up the good work and we all look forward to the day when our computers no longer sleep :-)

Hmm, workunits... I guess I'll have to let my machine have one to try. The only other project I run is Einstein and for most of this month, it's been making my machine unstable until the other app I run on it (a feed to radioreference.com) freezes and I have to reboot (sometimes a hard reboot). Then the Einstein unit returns an "error while computing." As long as I keep Einstein on "no new tasks" the computer keeps purring along (a lot quieter than when BOINC is running!). If Seti can run without causing a crash, I'll be very happy.

Normally I also run SETI but have it suspended until the work is finished on getting things sorted out. I also run LHC but it very seldom has any work so currently the only thing that BOINC is running on my machine is Einstein. Anxiously awaiting the release of new WUs from SETI. Not in full withdrawal symptoms yet starting to sweat a bit. :) ____________

Cheers. ____________ | |

Einstein has been solid for me as well. Projects that 'get in my way' are Malaria (which really wants to dominate the CPU), and some of the GPU projects (DNetc more than MW or Collatz).
