In late October the project suffered a major server crash. Two new servers have been purchased and are being installed and configured. This process does, however, take time. There will be no new work until they new machines are ready. Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Then there is really no need for you to start a new thread. Thank you for your co-operation.

I love the project, but if this was your/my business, do you really think you could shut it down for over a month and still survive? I understand it takes time, I am trying to be patient, but I am researchin other boinc projects, I hate to leave this one, if it has to be, it has to be. Please tell me your shipping is not being screwed up, almost anything electronical in nature ships within 5 days. I have based all my systems around this project and have 2 new sytsems ready to fire up as soon as this project comes online.

If you take the time to read some of the Technical News Threads you will see that there is a good deal more to it than ordering hardware and plugging it in. As someone who has been a member since 1999, surely you remember the month or more long outages in the early days. The project has, and will continue, to endure. I hope you can be patient for a little while longer. ____________

In addition to Kenzie's fine post, I would like to add that no, if this were a business it probably wouldn't be able to survive. However, we have to understand that this is not a business for good reason. If it were, it would probably have the funds to avoid stuff like this, since they would be selling a product or service that would bring in profits. The whole point is that this is volunteer, and as such each volunteer needs to take responsibility for their assets. SETI never promised 100% or even 40% uptime, so it is up to each of us to ensure that our computers have something to do when SETI's down. Putting all your metaphorical eggs in one basket is certainly not wise. Spread the wealth, and if you wish make the resource shares low on the other projects. The servers have already arrived. It's the configuring, testing and burn-in that takes the most time. Wouldn't it upset people even more if they just got new servers and the server wasn't QA tested before it left the manufacturer, only to fail in the SETI labs causing more downtime and frustration, not just for the volunteers, but for the staff as well?

I started to use Boinc now and I don't know how use it..how can i view my elaborations, statistic? I've nothing in that pages..why? Hello! There is nothing you have to do since the BOINC Manager works almost automatically. As soon as you attach a project of your choice, the program will download and upload the data, providing an internet connection is available. Statistics data will show up as soon as you get credits confirmed. So far you do not have any. If you have only SETI@home attached to your account, then you will have to wait until the project gets started again. If you want to see your PC working/analyzing data, pick up any of all those projects available, one or two or as many as you want and let the PC and BOINC do the rest. You will need at least one day of PC operations to score on the different statistics pages available. The packages of data you finish will be analyzed by any other BOINC-member as a confirmation or backup, to avoid miscalculations or fraud. In case this member gets the same results as you did, then some credits will be granted and you will see how your credit account grows. Most of us have at least one or two more projects attached to their accounts to avoid occasional shortage/outage of data flow. Auguri. ____________

Even though the server is kinda up right now, what I think all of us are looking for is a basic statis instead of the automatically generated page that always pops up from tuesday-thursday servers are down for maintence, I've read that so many days, for so long, seriously, put a little bit of something into the homepage, i do not care if you start talkin about your cat/dog, but something has to be better the same #*(^$ you keep automating. Thats just my opinion, but I feel everyone is trying to stay connected somehow to seti, and you are not providing any feedback on the project as a whole. What was the latest post? Nov 16th, Dr. Masaki Morimoto, July 27th, Don Backer has passed away. June 30, Arecibo Observatory Repair Status. Really? And I am not trying to disrepect anyone, but within that time frame, nonthing else is going on? My whole point is, it doesnt matter if it is working or not, please give us something to read, even if it is a dead end and will go nowhere. Example, well today we had to reformat the hard drives again! Maybe tommorrow will be better. That is so much better that reading the automated stuff u are always posting.

...Sorry for my rant, but this is getting old seeing the same message month after month... Those rants are getting old too! Did you ever look at the Technical News, which are linked from the SETI homepage and from the very first post in this thread? There's covered all you are requesting. And the relevent News item on the home page (now slightly out of date) is that of 28 Oct 2010 22:26:47 UTC; and that's not even two months old. Gruß, Gundolf
