What I want to know is who was the poor stiff that had to clean up before you took the pics of the empty boxes? We wanted to see packing material and empty boxes and stuff spread all over the lab and you guys as you dug into them. :-)

I'm also wondering how many people you had standing around watching as you opened them. Must have been just like Christmas morning in there.

Thanks for the pics and congrats on your new toys, er, tools. Where did the names come from? Have you ever considered naming servers bert and ernie? I think if I had named one oscar, I'd name the other bigbird or snuffy (snuffalupagus is too much to type out all the time). (I would not call one elmo.) And of course if bruno is getting recycled, you can also recycle the name.

Any timeline on getting them live and the project started again? I know you said 2 weeks after they arrived. Is that looking realistic so far?

(Not that it matters much to me. My one computer running BOINC had a nervous breakdown a couple weeks ago and I shut off BOINC to keep my feed on radioreference.com running. I bought it some more RAM, but now I'm hesitant to shut it down to install it; the RR feed has been running all week without needing a restart and I'm afraid if I shut it down it will start choking again.)

I'd better post this before I think of something else boring and useless to add to it.

Hey, wait a minute. According to the server status page, bruno is running. What gives?

Thanks for the pictures, Matt!

Maybe I'll hunt around for some blue stickers you can put over the red eject buttons on the drives. Oscar can have blue ones, and Carolyn has red ones. :)

I believe that when the functionality of "old" Bruno was transferred to Bambi, Bambi was renamed Bruno. There seems to be no "Bambi" anymore.

I think the reason for the rename was that it was a lot easier for all the links among all the servers to remain "Bruno". Otherwise, many connections would have had to be changed, and the "Men of Berkeley" were under a lot of pressure because the result files were completely filled and had to be moved to new resourses.

Which Berkeley being a California State University is the one thing It can not do, The best that can be done is pay by Credit/Debit Card in either Visa or MasterCard and unless the rules change, Paypal is not possible here, So Paypal is out. Now If You have a Paypal Debit MasterCard and have money in It, Then You can donate using Paypal, That's My best and only suggestion on this.

I just had to cycle the furnace for the first time this year due to the lack of Seti crunchables for the rigs......LOL.

According to:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_donate.php

"We can also accept gifts by wire transfer. Please contact the Assistant Manager of Gift Administration at 510-643-1372 or by email (gahelp@berkeley.edu) for instructions on how to make a wire transfer."

is another possible way to donate.

Everyone is excited looking at the pictures...
But did anyone notice what's in the book-shelves in the background of the first picture?
With this kind of literature, I'm pretty sure everything is going to run smoothly...

There is also a Bible in my house. I'm sure any direct implication you can infer from that would be incorrect.

There was mention you guys were not able to properly rack the servers. Where was the issue that prevented that from happening?

I'm due to get a 2U from HP here soon and am intensely curious if there is going to be issues with my server cage and the new server.

My cage is currently hosting 3 2U Dell 1750 PE's. The rail hardware is rather nonstandard, but I've yet to hear of any of them failing and causing the servers to fall. I believe the racks are of the server standard since they accept just about everything else that has brackets and bolts.
All of your WU's are belong to me now!

RE: the third photo...

Wouldn't it have made sense, while the space was available, and before you installed the new computers, to have un-snarled that ball of cable sitting on top?
