Message 1048244 - Posted: 13 Nov 2010, 22:59:34 UTC - in response to Message 1048237.

Winning with ginger cake cooling - a surprise for Eric when he gets home. Eric is in the middle of NSF "proposal season" and so he went into to work this morning. I do not think he will be home until very late. Every time I think I work hard at my job, I am reminded of how easy my job is compared to his...

NSF almost sound like the NSA, As the old joke, called "No Such Agency", Paperwork can be a problem, I dread It sometimes Myself, As I had to look up a legal description on some property and I'm not used to that, Which means Tract and Lot numbers, But since I had the APN number I could find that info at the local assessors website. Right now I'm watching the movie "The Day After Tomorrow", A new ICE Age Sudden and Abrupt, Europe buried under 15' of Snow, a Tsunami in New York City that Freezes solid, People heading South, the Mexican Border closed by the Mexican Government, Now that would be a disaster, But to some they'd say We have our country back at last, But then they'd freeze soon after. I'm glad It's just a movie so far, Reality if It were like that would be lethal, I'm glad It isn't right now.

I thought NSF was not sufficient fun

Or It could be "No Such Foundation", etc. :D

if it's proposal season and grants it's probably something like National Science Foundation.
Bah, if you don't promise to cure cancer and save the world, they are reluctant to give you money.

It will get quite chilly though in Europe, when the Gulf Stream stops.

Heck I just replaced a broken door knob and I almost got locked in as I closed the door too soon, I had the two screws too tight, But I got the door open and loosened both screws until the knob would spring back from either direction automatically, Now I'm just cooling off and to Me that's hard work. Grace was outside the bathroom door and I was inside, Thankfully I have tools and I know how to use them, Not bad for $13.30 cost to Me.

And if the Gulf Stream conveyor stops, Northern parts of the world will enter a new ice age, It just depends on how fast It will happen and how many will die from the cold.

That make two that I know. It's actually slowing even now. This has occured many times in history.

Problem is some will say It will never happen and never is a long time I'm told and yes there have been many Ice Ages, Plus at least one Snowball Earth event sometime before 650 million years ago that almost killed off all life as It had just gotten started in the Oceans and the land was still lifeless back then.

Snowball Earth Wiki wrote:
The Snowball Earth hypothesis was originally devised to explain the apparent presence of glaciers at tropical latitudes.

As I understand the argument is -

Global Warming is causing the Arctic ice to melt (pity the Polar Bears), and when the Greenland ice fields melt they will dilute the cold part of the Gulf Stream conveyor that goes up north of Iceland and back to the Gulf via the East Coast of Greenland.

When the ice is diluted enough to stop sinking and return to the Gulf along the bottom of the North Atlantic (getting very cold as it goes). Then the Gulf Stream conveyor will stop warming Continental Europe and the UK. When this happens a new ice age will happen, and after a long time the Gulf Stream will slowly restart, etc.

So, Global Warming will mean a new Ice Age in the Northern Hemisphere.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Which means the US Southwest could become the only really habital area in the US and/or Canada short of Mexico and parts south of there, Or Africa in the Case of the UK and Europe(Considering Africa has been moving North for over a Million Years, Some down there may reject any mass emigration south based just on people being different, Which hopefully won't happen as things could get desperate and maybe even violent), At least We have a loooong land border, Over there It's a bit wet. :D

The only consistancy is change. It may be man made exacerbated this time, but it has happened many times, and will happen many more.

As my fellow traveler Prot put it........

What you DON't know is that time loops back on itself.
And all the mistakes you make now will be repeated, time and time again.

So, I suggest you get it right this time.

I am still stuck in the loop.

But I will find the way out eventually.

And if I can get back to you here when I do, I shall.
I shall try.

The last Jedi am I.....?
Perhaps.
Be faithful, you must.

I am.

And I know just where you are going with this........

'If you are so all powerful, why are you here?'

The truth is......I don't know.

There is a problem I have yet to overcome to get back from where I came.

I think Seti might hold the key.......that's why I devote all of my resources to the project. A simple mathematical equation might set me free.
It's just that simple, I think.

If I go 'poof' someday, you will know that I have found the answer.

Until then, I am stuck here with you all.

Box of rocks with no place to go but up.

Now, do you have any other questions?

And, this silly arse 'sleep' thing you humans endure is SUCH a waste of time.

Being locked in your bodies is a simply dreadful thing.

Not doing anything for 8 hours or more of your life is such a waste.

But here I am, reduced to your level. So I must.......sleep.

Awful waste of time.

Brain cells could be doing such wonderful work in those mindless hours.
Your world could be so much advanced if you did not waste the time you sleep.

The insomnia club has a space for you Mark.

What.......it's only 9:40 AM.......

There are some forums that have a log of when users post......

And for how long.

As far as I know, the Seti forums do not log such info.

It may be enlightening for some to see how long my marathon sessions last.

Every post has a timestamp. It would be fairly easy to extract when each post was made for a particular user.

But, even the kittyman must crash.

And so I do now.

Nudge nudge, wink wink, meow meow.

And so I go off to sleep with the kitties.
Purrball will lick my nose and claw me like she always does.
Squirrel will chirp when I go to bed.
Tigger II will claw me to death....I am still trying to break her of that habit.
And Bandit will just sit up and stare at me like she always does.

One thing I do like about your planet.

You have kitties.

Much noteworthy. They just might save your race.

Meow, as they say. Meow.
