The UK government has sold the London to Folkestone high speed rail link to a Canadian consortium for £2.1bn ($3.4bn).

Is that the British billion the US billion, as two sets of three zeros to you is a billion (correct?), but for some wacky reason that's our million.

this is a move made popular in the US. the Local, State or Federal Gov't decides(usually a conservative in power) to "privatize" something. Be it, prisons or state/Federal parks, the bottom line is these "private" organizations take what was once something that belonged to us and has turned it around raised the rent and tells us its a great day to be alive. when the state could have done the same thing for the same price and eliminated the profit which in turn can either be returned to the facility to make improvements/repairs or reduce what is being charged.

In the end its all about profits.
