I don't actually practise this one, but on several occasions when it happened by accident I swear it worked. And I've known several other people who say it does too.

When you feel a cold coming on, get stinking, fall on your face drunk. Next day all is well, except for the hangover - but it goes away faster than a cold.

This may sound weird, but try gargling with warm salt water. I personally make the salt water about as concentrated with salt as I can. It will taste horrible and I recommend against swallowing any, but give it a try. You may have to gargle 2 or 3 times a day for it to really work.

A friend of mine from Switzerland claims a cure to be red wine in sweetened tea. Do NOT add milk!!

Dont know the exact mix but I suspect the red wine forms a majority share.

Hi Rachel,
Sorry to hear you have a code in your doze. :->
As you know, there are no reliably effective treatments for viruses. However, there is one approach you should know about. First, take a shower. Then, without drying off, stand outside in the freezing cold for as long as you can. In a strong, north wind, if at all possible.
You might object, exclaiming, "But doctor, that'll give me pneumonia!!"
Yes! Exactly! And THAT we can cure!! :->)~~o

Feel better soon, Rachel.
Robert

Doesn't that belong in the "Laughter Cures All" thread? :-)

Matza ball soup, chicken soup, ramen with rice, tea with honey and vodka...

2-3 teaspoons of Brandy in a cup of tea.

Before you go to bed warm up a glass of lemonade.
Acts the same way as lemsip.(Helps sweat out the fever)
As also said by Jim gargle with warm salt water.

hope this helps

Hey Doc!!! I LOVED that advice. Not only does it keep the ER's busy, but it keeps us medics busy in the middle of the night passing out proventil, atrovent and solu-medrol. JOB SECURITY!

Take some Echinacea treatment and add lots of vitamin C. Also add a little dosage of aspirin to lower the fever and lighten the dumb feeling. Get well soon! ;)

Aloha, Uli

In yoga there is a posture know as the Lion's pose, you sit on a mat with your legs curled under you and stick your tongue out as far as you can while clenching your throat muscles. Believe me if you can see a picture it makes more sense. but you do it a few times every time your throat feels sore. You could try it but by now you are probably totally drunk and in the hospital with pnemonia, in which case the lion pose won't help, sorry

Quiet, Jim! You'll spoil everything! Remember, they have to think we care about them! How can we get them to keep paying those sky high---uh, wait a minute. Is this a secure circuit? *&^($%)mmmmzzztt-POP!
As I was saying, Rachel, the Pneumovax is quite expensive but it could be helpful. Remember to mix it thoroughly with the alcohol and barbiturates. And call me at once if you feel any side-effects. You do have really good insurance, don't you? Hmmmmm?
That's nice...

Keep your feet warm and your head cool + open the bedroom windows for clean fresh air.
Then wait 3 days for the symptoms to disappear.
Good luck

Rachel

If you just ignore your cold it will go away in about 7 days whereas some of the above remedies will take a week.
